Denver info needed

Forums:

My son  just got a real good job offer in the Cherry Creek area of Denver. Looking for info on apartments or sections of town to consider around the city close to areas he will enjoy himself. He's 26 single and should have some decent money to spend on rent. He will have time to travel to areas outside of the city to fish, ski, etc., so not really looking for that type of info, more just living areas with stuff close by to do without having to drive much.

Thanx.

Sorry not my neighborhood, Moderator Mark may be able to help though!

Do know that rents are sky high and availability is extremely low. There's quite a bit on new development around the Lincoln Light rail station.

Also Cheery Creek is a fairly large area, so might want to provide a tad more info about work location and proximity to Transit etc...

Best of luck!

Centennial is close by. That part of town is booming. Lakewood is nice. Denver has one of the best transit systems in the nation.

*toke*

Cherry Creek Hospital area is where he would work, he could probably afford to spend 1,200 - 1,400 a month on rent.

Close to the rail system would be something he would be into, we pretty much live in a small town and he is looking to expierence big city life, with not much having to drive other than on weekends to the mountains, etc. He also like sports so I am sure he would be wanting to see the denver sports team but that looks easy enough since they are all downtown.

The light rail train is about twice as expensive as the bus. The train is of course a much quicker way to travel. For example he

may want to look into a light rail transit pass. You can use it on both modes of transit. If you only buy a bus pass you can only

use it on the bus. The transit map is also split upinto fare zones. The father you want to travel the more it costs.

Thanx zippy, good info

RTD has a different system than most city transit companies. Not unique as other select cities also use the same

system. Not outrageous though if you make a decent living. Wish I could afford to live in Denver.

Congratulations on your son's success.

My bad  he is not working around Cherry Creek hospital, it is Rose Medical Center

Just west of Rose medical is the Congress Park neighborhood. Not cheap but nice. Bike to work.

I don't think light rail goes near there. There are buses.

If you look at a map, look west and south. There are big parks that are surrounded by great neighborhoods.

Rose is on 9th Ave. There are buses that go east/west on streets near there. Capitol Hill is a short bus ride away and has a lot of apartments. Get a few blocks south of Colfax and it's cool.

I'd look between 6th on the south, 13th on the north, Grant St on the West and Colorado Blvd on the East.

Here's a video of a bike ride through Congress Park to Capitol Hill.

It starts out east of Colorado Blvd and I don't ever go there - I just don't have any reason to.

He's riding west and gets to Colorado Blvd and 7th ave at 8:45.

When he crosses, that's Congress Park. One of the nicest parts of Denver.

Then he rides through Cheeseman Park. the park.

Then it's Capitol Hill. Cap Hill is cool and close to downtown.

Like any city, it has nicer parts and sketch parts. Just have to find the balance.

Makes me want to go for a ride (when it warms up).

South of Colfax on Capitol Hill is awesome. Forget what I said about Centennial.

I've been to a few parties back there. Epic hood. Stay away from East Colfax though. Eww.

Thanks highnote

Yes, Capitol Hill/Congress Park neighborhoods are wedged between Rose and downtown.
Uptown neighborhood north of Colfax has lots of options, as well.

All walk-able/bike-able, with plenty of cheap RTD (bus), Uber, cabs etc. Rail service really is moot in that area since you're already in the thick of it all.

Thanx Ned, he has a  trip to Spain planned before he gets there  so he may have 4-5 days to find a place once he gets there before he starts working. this is all very helpful.

don't listen to nedb re: transportation in Denver area

I somehow heard his voice in my head while trying to get to Phish @ Dicks from my hotel in Louisville on a Friday afternoon during rush hour ... saying something along the lines of "the new toll lanes and reconstruction of hwy 36 provide a public benefit; allowing people who want to spend the money to go faster than the masses will ultimately help everyone".  Somewhere around Westminster where it was bumper to bumper, I figured what the heck and moved into the express lanes.  While I certainly moved more quickly, it probably only saved me 5-10 minutes ... since all lanes had to slow down by the time 36 converged with I-25 ... which appears to be a natural bottleneck.   Wound up getting a bill for something like $1.56 in the mail about a month later.  Thanks ned, I blame this on you.  But good to see you on the other side!

We're planning a Spain/Portugal trip this summer, Joe. (our kiddo graduates HS in May :) )
Feel free to reach out for more info as his arrival approaches.

Zillow and craigslist have pretty good rental portals for the area.

I know somebody who lives here. One of the best deals in Denver apartments.

Any more info, I may be driving out with him depending if he buys a car here and drives or if he buys one there

Otherwise what information do you need?

I recently worked and lived in the Denver area (Littleton) for nearly a year and liked it a lot. Your son should have a gas but rent is high and availability is low so be careful with some landlords over-playing the supply side antics. Living in Cherry Creek is gonna be pricey but there are lots of great pockets in the city and also some cool spots in Lakewood, Littleton, Centennial, etc, depending upon his overall eventual transpo situation. I found the people and overall culture very friendly and open with people of all stripes seeming to work together really well and generally get along. Enjoy!
