Department of Justice Western Union Refunds

Forums:

My parents have since passed, both in there 90's.

About 5 or 6 years ago they got a call telling them there grandson was in jail and needed $1,000 for bail.

Mom Western unioned the money, of course it was a scam, picking on elderly people.

In 2017 Western Union forfeited 586 million in a deferred prosecution agreement for criminal conduct, bank secrecy act, aiding and abetting wire fraud.

My sister filed a petition with the DOJ in 2018 for reimbursement of the funds.

Today a check was received for the full amount.

I really never thought it would happen.

So far 350 million has been returned to 150,000 victims.

If you know anyone who got scammed and sent via Western Union let them know there's a chance they can get the money back.
