Personally I don't think any human should be kept in solitary confinement at all, and according to the Geneva Convention (of which the United States is a signator) its employment is considered a war crime. As appropriate.
No solitary. Gen pop is where he needs to be. Bunch of cop lovers who would like the opportunity to express their feelings towards dirty cops in their own unique way. Fuck him and good fucking riddance.
Note mr chauvin is going to state prison in Minnesota, not some far away federal maze of safety.
This means that (as a 19 year officer), regardless which prison he is sent he is likely to be housed in close range of some very familiar faces.
And I think his little quip to the Floyd family about "more information coming" was a tacit admission that he knows he's getting shanked up at first opportunity.
Like any felon, I'd like to see him get rehabilitated while in prison, without the fear of getting shanked or raped. Human rights are human rights, and I don't think that we should pick and choose who they apply to. Otherwise, we're no better than Chauvin.
Don't get me wrong. If the guy made an independent choice to hang himself I wouldn't shed a tear, but a reformed penal system needs to happen.
Unfortunately, he'll be protected. However, should a few fellow inmates decide to step on his neck for around 10 minutes or so, just as an experiment to see if people really can't breath when there are a couple hundred pounds on your throat, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Pricks like Chauvin don't need reform, they need to be the example set for their buddies in blue going forward.
19 years is a long ass time. He won't be protected every second of that time, even if he were in solitary confinement. It's just not logistically/financially/humanly possible.
The zone may or may not recall; chauvin offered an unsolicited guilty plea for 3rd degree murder to the DOJ in exchange for a minimum ten year federal sentence, which was rebuffed by AG Barr. He offered this plea presumably to avoid the obvious and imminent physical risks that come along with being housed in a state prison.
so Chauvin (his lawyer) went from arguing that he was guilty before a trial ever even took place and should be locked up for ten years in the fed,
to arguing for probation after he was found guilty and facing the MN state prison system where many of his former work acquaintances reside.
I don't think you can blame the prison system for Chauvin fearing these things, BK. From what I've seen of him, he seemed intelligent enough to understand how karma works. Let him live the rest of his life in containment and in constant fear. He brought that shit upon himself.
I know all that, but I'm looking at the big picture. For every scumbag that gets sent to prison and lives in fear for years, there's at least one innocent person and one low level victim of circumstance living in the same fear. I'm a bleeding heart on this one.

Good. So he will spend the time in solitary and go insane or they will let him mingle with the general population and see what happens.
