Did they actually fire you, or just stash you out of Her Majesty's sight?
I worked a Barbara Streisand concert in '94 and we were told the same thing, no eye contact and speak only if spoken to. There were also red carpets all around the backstage areas and we were told DO NOT walk on them and to step over them if needed.
That, along with metal detectors, which were unheard of in the '90s and that everyone entering backstage had to pass through, including her musical director the legendary Marvin Hamlisch, had everyone a little freaked out.
When she arrived we all groveled appropriately, and she proceeded to say hello and shake hands with everyone she passed, she ignored the red carpets and was as pleasant as could be.
walked down to Stern Grove and ticket scanner said walk right in.There was a guy tracking the incoming traffic (pretty light at 3pm) so they must have metrics to conclude there were many unused tickets.
Diana had several microphone issues so I guess there's a opening in her audio crew today...
and unlike Leftover Salmon on Sat night she did not cover an Ozzy or Black Sabbath tune...
Prince had the program director at a radio station I worked at kicked out of an after party for looking at him, but most of his coworkers were pretty happy it happened.
FIRED - sent home, pulled out of catering at lunch and told to get out, " you made eye contact and spoke to her "...ok, so, i had come down out of the grid for some reason or another and was walking in the cross over backstage and she was walking towards me...i don't know about you but its not easy to just ignore someone when it is ONLY you and the other person, so i said ' hey, how you doing ? '...
