DNB To Play River Theater for NYE!

Forums:

hey man!

OMG! Wasn't expecting this!!

Yay!! Hope to see y'all there!

Does anyone know if the moldy smell (not from the dank buds) at the River Theater has been taken care of?  Asking for a friend. ;)

That will depend  on how much rain we get betwixt now and then!

Soon Come !! Canyon is this your Art work ? On the Poster.

Lauren Boebert fronting the pistol packin mamas?...

Got my tix, bringing my wife

Yup, it is, Blaise...

Pretty great, Canyon. An owl?

Hoot hoot, Judit:)

I SO Wish I Could BE THERE !  My Back Can't Handle The Travel ....

The government sucks and I've had enough  <<<

THIS ! ^

I was inside the theater today. I don't think it smelled moldy, but I wasn't paying attention to the smell. So maybe it doesn't.

Thanks Peak! Good to hear from you and hugs to you and your lovely.

Hey y'all.  Gilmore's to host an open-River-house/pre-gamer before the Nelson show on NYE.

Lucky us, NYE falls on a Saturday night.  Whooo-hoo....come on by for some early revelry.

This is coming up soon. Rereading this thread and I am getting excited. Good pholks coming from all directions.

Will be great to celebrate the coming of the new year with family.

What time for the pre-party?

Yay, it's 12/26!

Hey Peak, Where do we get on the boat to go to your house? WU says over 7 " between now and then.  With about .6 " on Sat.

Cool poster, Canyon.

ok, ok, i'll go!

I very much want to see DNB... and thanks again, Peak for visiting the theater.

Just don't have those dates planned yet and I thought it would be fun to see JGB too.

I have a sleeping bag in car...will figure it out over next few days.

I was even thinking of being in Portland for NYE (sold out Garcia Birthday Band @ Mission)... but DNB shows are hard to find, and hey, I'm in the area, right? ;)

Leaving Ashland now... pass looks good.

^^^ pass was bad in a different way: super dense fog!

had to use emergency flashers, stressful, just like skiing in fog.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I've traveled the pass in that fog. So stressful! And once that I can remember, very late at night, it was freezing, so rime on fence lines. It was such a relief to get out of it on the California side.

Anyone know of an unused Hotel rezzy for the 31st in Guerneville?

nada available and my go-to rustic cabin spot on Johnson's Beach may have succumbed to the biblical flood?

Drive safe LLOLLO!

Did you check the Creekside Inn?

And Yeah, that poster is most excellent.

Hope to see you there LLOLLO

Freezing fog is a thing, but too warm here.

Now I had a low beam headlight fail.... found a bulb but can't find anyone to install it south of Redding... it's foggy here, Contuing on to tonight's destination (Berkeley / Piedmont) w/ fog lights  and 1 headlight!

Fog sucks.  Need to find a vintage Volvo mechanic tomorrow.

Walstib if you find any larger rentals I'd pitch in for a sofa.

One Headlight...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzyfcys1aLM

at one time we had one Good Headlight and one Bad Headlight on the Zone...

WALSTIB I am about to cancel my res for the 31st at the Geurnville Lodge

Just canceled on travelocity

Made it to Berkeley about an hour ago!

I should have been on the road at dawn, I know, I know.  Went exploring as I always do on the mountain.

Brought the fruit and veggies from my fridge, so enjoying those +seaweed+ nuts with a JubelAle on side for dinner. ;)

Hoping for sushi tomorrow before the meetup.... if that's happening... either day is fine by me... Walstib is probably right about We'd be Tues.. tomorrow, everyone will be racing in to city and finding their spot... more nervous excitement in play, right?

I think it's about time I chimed in here. I don't think I'm working the door, Jerry never called me back and neither did that lady that took my number. It's a good thing because now, I just wanna have fun.

Anyone coming up is free to stop by our house for a year end meet and greet of like minded people. I think starting around 3:00 I'll be putting on wristbands, wait, no I won't be. The door is open. We will do some food served around 4:30ish. If anyone wants to bring an appetizer please do. I'll probably have some drinks here but it's BYOB for the most part.

To recap:

Everyone is welcome

Doors at 3:00

Food at 4:30

Show at 8:00

10656 River Drive (Not River Road) Forestville. My house has a flag pole.

Thanks Peak and Jamjuice!

So generous.

Would love to hear a river and road status later this week.

I just called River Theater box office and spoke with Jerry the owner.

He said doors are at 7 and they will be selling tickets at door for $70.

Then he said "lots of celebrities coming"... ???

Yes, I was polite and did not ask him about mold smells, hee hee.

They intend to stream the show on Rivertheaterradio.com/radiostream

Perhaps "celebrities" actually means Zoners?

Thanks for the stream info, LLOLLO
I wonder if DNB Radio will also be happening?

Cancellations are happening at a few lodging properties in Guerneville... was hoping to share a 2 bdr cottage I found to save $, but everyone i've contacted has plans or aren't going.  My email is in profile if anyone wants lodging info... there are 2 other rooms at same property in G'ville, 1 at Creekside, plus a room in Monte Rio:

My plan B: head to Arcata tomorrow PM for JGB on way back to Portland.

Heading to Arcata from Sebastopol now...

Happy 2022 to DNB fam and have a good show!

Wait......  What?

I was almost tempted to get a rental cabin but couldn't find anything in walking distance that was affordable. IMO if I still have to drive to the lodging after the show on NYE I may as well just abstain and drive home. Weather here isn't that bad. No flooded roads out by Occidental today. The rain subsided a few hours ago, so I don't think there will be flooding - knock on wood. Hoping to pop in to the Gillmore's for pre-game revelry!

Just arrived to Arcata... drive took a lot longer due to nasty weather.

All cell towers were damaged in earthquake as well as the hotel elevator!

Hope someone was able to benefit from the G'ville hotel info, though.

I shall miss seeing the Gilmores and Zoners there for sure!

The trip cosmicity continues:  After the delays, I arrive to Blue Lake casino at 10:30..., (and I don't dig casinos...thinking I could get lunch/dinner and hear the show from afar, then maybe buy a ticket for tomorrow.

While circling the parking lot, I saw some JGB fans and asked if the show was almost over .....

They said "Over? It hasn't even begun yet, get in there!"

I'm wondering if some of the band members were also delayed by the weather... it was a hell of a drive.

You will be missed.

Aww,  thanks Peak!

Had to make a decision for my wallet and my solo drive... needed to head farther north...

Happy New Year hugs  to you and Jamjuice.

JGB was smokin and played lots of funky dance covers. Everyone was dancing and best of all, there was plenty of room to dance.

The liquid light show dude was there with 360 art since the venue was one of those inflatable tent structures... more surfaces to project onto.

Atmospheric river my ass. Can we just get back to calling it a rainy day?

>>>>>Atmospheric river my ass.

Without context, this may not be the sentence you want to be uttering..

Also.  Have fun tonight folks.  Extremely jealous.

Birdie doesn't get off ground til 3:50... hope to swing by briefly. See you kids soon!

Rainy day dream away...

I believe we'll be able to hear the show at https://www.rivertheaterradio.com/

anybody else tuning in to the audio stream??

I just checked in, and DNB's first set is already in progress... sound is OK quality, but not up to Budboy's standards when he used to stream Radio DNB on Mixlr.com

Missin' my freaky friends at the show... and those unable to attend as well...

My work here is done... G'nite folks... Happy New Year!

I checked out the stream around 9:30 - the show was just getting under way. I heard 6 of 1 and Down the Middle before I quit due to frequent audio drop-outs.

Looks great on paper.

how was it freaks?

First Set

Thanks for the opening setlist Zooey!

Mark D texted me in the wee hours after I had gone to bed... show ended with a killer Kick In The Head, and a Box of Rain encore. He didn't specify if there was anything played between LGS and Kick... can someone who was actually in attendance please confirm or correct the complete setlist?

^^^ thanks Zooey!

From listening to the audio stream, I'm absolutely certain that the second set began with Edge of the Wire and then Casey Jones, prior to the New Year's countdown ... whether or not Any Naked Eye appeared later in the show is something that needs to be verified by someone who actually attended.

Similarly, I would like to hear from somebody who was there about whether Stella Blue was played after LGS and before Kick.

... because the fans want to know !!

I expect a few reveling slackers will check in here shortly with their first-hand accounts... heart

is "enema red" the new slang term all the kids are using to describe a tequila enema?

Fun times, different setlist.

i got a Stella and my box. Life's great. Missed ya fish. Barry has a new pedal steel. Has an inlayed wolf on it. Seems his wolf band paid well.

Back home, I've had a great run of December music!

I don't think there was any naked eyes.

thanks for the killer abalone pin lltd! I love it

OK, here's the final final setlist from NYE, best as I can determine from afar:

Bummer about no Naked Eye but good news about Hawaii.  Wish there was more heads up.

I am monitoring airfare deals... Alaska Air issues them on Tuesdays.... today's deal covered flights up until Mar 5, so I'll post here if /when they post a deal for the end of March.  SFO > Maui for $99 o/w right now!

Thanks LLOLLO,

Will check back to see what you're finding. Happy Happy New Year to all Dedicated Maniacs!  R

Do the SFO>OGG RT get an interlsland puddle jumper.

pre-game  or post recovery on Maui

Why for Wally?  Alaska flies to and from Kona and we finally don't have to deal with that puddle jumper. The Big Island has a Sensei too.

For those flying out of SFO, know that best prices today are on Hawaiian Airlines.... but they route via OGG / Maui.

$273-282 RT  --  March 25, 26 or 27 departure and April 5 return.

The closer you choose dates that are just before or after the DNB show range of 3/29 - 4/1, expect higher prices.

I'm researching a backpack trip in the Waimanu Valley -- if I can swing this trip at all, I'd like to do that before the shows.

My 2 fav AirBnB rooms on Big Island from DNB 2020 are closed to 2023 bookings! Need to find out what happened... one was directly across road and upslope from The Eleven (venue at Glori's house).

SEA departures have the sweet routing at an average price: Nonstop RT to Kona = $427

Portland departures suck.

Big Island was a magical place for me, would love to do it again and explore the parts of the island I missed the first time ... fingers crossed.

Airfares should drop a little on the next couple of Tuesdays.

.... and remembering Wally's solid performance at that sweet little fest in Ukiah last year... his playing is worth the trip.

I'm waiting for $165 United in economy +, not basic.   I want to use my United Million Mile Benefits (most of the time, free upgrade to first.  Not worth paying, but for free....).

Might just see you there Christine, never know.

I'm researching a backpack trip in the Waimanu Valley

First check to see if the Waipi'o Valley rd from the lookout is open. (Recent construction may have  closed it to  both auto and pedestrians?) This is the only access to the Muliwai Trail>Waimanu Valley.I've hiked it many times to the Waipi'o Valley and beyond to the Muliwai Trail. Spectacular scenery. It's a tough hike, especially with a backpack, fording the river in the valley and the slick, narrow treacherous ascending and descending switchbacks on the Muliwai trail are no joke.

Have you hiked the Polol'u Valley.? No camping there but easier to access the trailhead.

I'm hearing shows: 29th OceanView (venue tba), 30th off  31 Kona (venue tba), april 1 The 11

Nelson-Time...

looks like Tiki Mamas is still open in OceanView.

Enjoyed this venue when DNB played last time.

https://www.facebook.com/TikiMamakau/

and Handijam just promoted a show there with Greg Douglas:

https://gregdouglassguitar.com/event/4800125/612023795/the-pompatus-of-l...

Whatever became of Pirate's Cove in OceanView?

that place was a trip...

Walstib -  Thanks for the hiking info, I like a challenging Bridge Over The River Kwai scramble and something to work towards.... and warm weather backpacking requires less stuff (I have a hammock w/ a mosquito net)-- I'm going to call the office, as I too found references to closed access roads.  I did not hike Polol'u valley last trip -- thanks, I'll look that up.

Found this map, wow, look at that elevation gain over a relatively short distance!

waimanu_0.png

Tiki Mama hasn't posted to Facebook since 2020...

BigIsland.png

I would prefer Uncle Robert's, but looks like that location isn't in play.

I hope the order of the locations you listed are incorrect, actually, because the order isn't logical for efficient travel:  Oceanview is farthest away from airport, then Kona would be back in town close to airport, then back south, almost to Oceanview, for The Eleven... then back up to airport.

The areas in red outline are Kailua / Kona at the top, and Oceanview at the bottom... The Eleven is in-between -- on Hwy 11-- but didn't want to call out exact location since it's a residence.

because the order isn't logical for efficient travel

ha ha

be thankful they aren't playing in Hawi after a  show the previous nite in Pahoa.

plenty of stories of folks heading back  across the island to Kona after Akebono shows also.

LOL like running into wild boars or lava or something similar?

while driving through the volcano zone, i felt like i was worlds away on another planet... and saw a very trippy rainbow effect when I pulled off into a neighborhood.. it's the image several rows down, next to the black sand beach from my DNB 2020 album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/rdEEvprHi1XTM1dQ6

soon to be an industry-wide practice, if it isn't already...

Hawaii Travel Deals Vanish Suddenly with Latest Innovations: https://beatofhawaii.com/hawaii-travel-deals-vanish-suddenly-with-latest...

^^^ Thanks Garyfish. Just like concert ticket pricing.

I found a $300 RT from Portland!  However, the trip is more days than I I truly want and with an 18 hr layover in LA, I'd have to bother LA Zoners for some fun.

The departure time of the return flight is 4:20PM --- is that a sign? ;)

Good thing is that pricing is moving around, just like the article said.

Hey Downstream, meant to ask which airport do you fly from?
Alaska did not send an email today... but I have searches set up on Google Flights - better for research.

I realized that I have enough airmiles if I choose flights departing from Seattle -- I can get nonstops from there (Portland nonstops are full or too highly priced.)

Nice pics, LLOLLLO! Thanks.

...the "revenue management" spin was a real LOL moment for me his morning, GaryFish.

Walstib said.... I'm hearing shows: 29th OceanView (venue tba), 30th off  31 Kona (venue tba), april 1 The 11

Got that list confirmed by DNB FB group:

3/29: Oceanview, likely Tiki Mama's

3/31: Kailua-Kona town, Venue TBA

4/1: S. Kona (The Eleven, private residence w/ view of ocean and plenty of room to roam)

Announcements will happen after PITS is over with.

Well, now I just got word from friends who visited with Barry over the holidays -- that locations for 3/29 and 3/31 will be switched, which is a much better order for those flying in just prior -- 1st show will be in the town where the airport is.... likely at that covered pavilion in the park that was night 1 or 2 of the 2020 tour.  We'll see, LOL.

what does PITS have to do with DNB?

Billy K/Wally double-drum attack would be nice...

CBGB are at PITS

today's pricing for flights SFO > Kona .... use Google Flights to see this interactive grid in real-time and view the various airlines for these prices...

https://www.google.com/travel/flights

I know, I know, I'm tracking these before the announcement... but it's good to understand how / when the prices fluctuate.

Airfare alert!

Alaska Airlines discounting fares by 20% with this code:

TRAVEL20

Offer valid only through midnight tonight, 1/19!

Just read the fare rules:  Travel must be complete by March 8, wah wahhh

Maybe we should start a DNB Hawaii thread with next post?

^^^ whoa, mind reader! go for it!
