Dodgers Vs. Padres-Tonight on ESPN

Forums:

Good rivalry  building in the NL

Not much of a rivalry, at least not yet.

As good as the Padres are, the Dodgers are just so much better than every other team right now, and it's hard to build a rivalry without good competition.

Poop on the Dodgers.

The Giants will have to figure out how to hit the ball and score a few runs at some point, but they're pitching out of their minds, are scrappy and have a better record than the Pads right now, so poop on the Padres too.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe I spoke too soon.

Padres come back to win in (little league rules) extra innings.

Always nice to see the Dodgers blow one.

Giants one game out!

I'll be at the game tomorrow.

Duck the Fodgers!

Puck the Fadres!

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your Giants may make a run of it as well, Lance

well that sucked.

bull pen all banged up.

NL West is going to be a good battle.  Hope the Giants can keep it up and give the Dodgers and Padres a run for the division.

I'm enjoying watching the Orioles young talent coalescing and the Birds start to resemble a competitive MLB team again.  The Red Sox are humming again behind Martinez and Boegerts, and the Rays are tough again, although the Yankees bats seem to be cursed.

Hoping to get to a game soon.

This time of year I don't usually spend too much time looking at the standings or results from around the league or division, but this thread got me to actually look a bit closer at those things, and I see that all the games that the Padres & Dodgers have played have been tight battles.

So I guess there is a pretty good rivalry building there, with both teams super strong and built for now and the future.

Fuckers.

As for the Giants, they're pitching over their heads right now, but they're hitting WAY below their abilities. They're scratching out wins, but in the long run they're no match for either of the damned SoCal teams, but if they could somehow stay competitive and squeeze into the (expanded again?) playoffs, as we've seen time & time again, teams that win a short series aren't always the best team.

In April one can dream.

Ultimately I'm figuring my boys will fade, and seeing that they're focused on building toward 2022/2023 and have a bunch of good veteran players on one-year contracts now, they will likely be facing some tough decisions in July about trading some/all of those veteran assets to help the build vs. trying to stay competitive this year.

Always a slippery slope.

Whatever happens, despite the fact that it's grueling to watch a team struggle to get five hits and score four runs a game, they're winning right now and I'm enjoying it while I can.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>>> ... I see that all the games that the Padres & Dodgers have played have been tight battles.

they play each other 9 times in September.

it's gonna be wild.

I had to check the calendar after reading this thread. Less than one month into the season. lol. (And I mean that lol in a good way.)

April is for dreamers.

And unless your team is in the hunt in September, April is also the best month to go to games, as even if your team is losing there is HOPE that they'll turn it around.

I love April baseball and am happy that by the end of the month I'll have seen my team live six times.

I generally only go to mid-week night games, as I like night games better and the mid-week games are WAY cheaper. Next month the Giants only play one of those, and by June things could be ugly for the Orange & Black, so I'm glad I've gotten the chance to get out to the park often this month.

And as I said in that other thread I started a couple of weeks ago, there have been less than 4,000 people at the games I've been to, which has been surreal, absolutely amazing and won't last, so I'm fully embracing it all while I can.

GG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lance, i think it was in Dirty Harry, there is a scene where the Mayor of SF attends a day game at Candlestick, stays for an inning and a half, at most, and then leaves. Appears there were about 3,000 people in the stands at that time as well, circa 1974

Yeah, in the second movie, and right after the mayor leaves Candlestick he gets kidnaped at the 3rd street bridge, right next to where the Giants play now.

What a great game there tonight!

Go Giants!
