Does United's "Mea culpa" go far enough?

Forums:

"United’s report on dragging reveals which passengers are bumped first

United says the process is automated — gate agents don’t decide who stays and who goes.

—First, anyone without a seat assignment is denied boarding.

—Passengers who paid the least for their ticket top the list for being bumped involuntarily.

—Passengers who paid the same fare are sorted by when they checked in for the flight.

—Customers with status in United’s MileagePlus frequent-flyer program won’t be bumped unless everyone on the plane has status, in which case the people with the lowest status get bumped first.

—Unaccompanied minors and passengers with disabilities won’t be bumped."

^  In reading the entire article, United appears to be taking genuine steps in the right direction; however, they haven't fully cleaned out the "infection" IMO -- there's still a glaring issue of a "stacked deck" regarding prioritization of who will be selected for being bumped involuntarily. Clearly, there are "special cases" such as unaccompanied minors or individuals with special needs that deserve to be excluded from being selected, but beyond said cases why should United be allowed to determine who's time is "least valuable" and stack the deck in accordance with its own special interests (i.e. rewarding those who are willing to pay a higher fare or loyalty members)? If the airlines are going to intentionally fill their planes to capacity - and even favoring such an objective through "padding" via overbooking to support this model, then why should an unsuspecting customer who by no fault of their own (in perhaps finding the best fare) be subject to being elevated to the top of the list for getting bumped? Is United not basically saying you can "insure" you don't get bumped by paying more and joining our loyalty program?

>> why should United be allowed to determine who's time is "least valuable" and stack the deck in accordance with its own special interests <<

Because it's a private company balancing the ever-changing dynamic of public opinion.

I'm flying United in a few weeks. Should I be concerned, or will my dapper and affable image keep me safely aboard the aircraft?

Are you suggesting that as a private company, an airline has a "free hand" and is completely unregulated with respect to overbookings?

A private company that wouldn't be here without  the government

Just state you opinion and stop with the inane, pseudo-intellectual questions.

United raising limit on payments to bumped flyers to $10,000

United is also vowing to reduce, but not eliminate, overbooking

Yet there's a minimum, do you believe that was set by the "goodness" of United?

So, regulation re: ticketing has already been integrated into the industry to an extent ... nonetheless, you played the tea party card ... or is that just because it's "me"?

i thought that's what "conservatives" wanted? a govt that helps the corporations. yay. 'merica...

I would strongly advise against wearing your smartest pair of leggings.

I also am flying United in a few weeks.  I plan on wearing a bathrobe and a tinfoil lined newspaper hat.

Will be ready to bump at the $10k level.

Depends on how much you spent Mark. Good luck.

Please post a video of the beating when you get back.

I hear they monitor the interwebs and trolling - hipsters are always bumped first, I'd be worried

I got an email from the CEO this morning!  Not that I fly United often, but I do have a frequent flyer account - I was sorta shocked the event was even ackowledged.

Actions Speak Louder than Words

blah blah blah...

Earlier this month, we broke that trust when a passenger was forcibly removed from one of our planes. We can never say we are sorry enough for what occurred, but we also know meaningful actions will speak louder than words.

blah blah blah...

Where the hell do you get your information?

What you stated is what Libtards wanted and GOT with Fauxbama,

Govt TAKEOVER of pretty much everything.

Remember, NOTHING about Fauxbama is/was real, nothing.

Not a serious human being, not one bit.

And BTW the media NEVER shows the clowns behavior just prior to being "escorted" off the plane.. (The footage is out there) The guy was bitching and whining like a little baby, REFUSING to give up his seat like a child.  He DID NOT act as a 67 y.o. ADULT.  No he acted like a 5 y.o. who you won't buy gum for at the Supermarket.

Guy was a troll.

Fuck him, hope he enjoys his settlement.

clown

I will pray for you, seapup.
