We are in for the Get Down.   Saw them only once before opening for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong over a year ago.  They were decent enough, but have seen some more recent shows on Nugs and they are getting pretty good.

I think you will all be surprised how good they have gotten and polished, They Just also started playing some new songs.  You can listen here...  https://dogsinapile.bandcamp.com/

I'm going to the Jan. 21st show up here in Humboldt... looking forward to it.

I don't know that much about these guys but I've watched a bit of them on YouTube. They sure seem to be top quality players, which in the jam world is far & away the most important thing, but I can't tell if they're more a GD cover band or if they have their own material.

If they aren't already, even if they're not great songs hopefully they develop their own material so that despite their name they can pull away from the shadow of the GD and create their own place.

I know they have a growing fan base on the east coast but they're playing very small places on the west side. The Rickshaw Stop in SF is really an odd booking, Felton Music Hall is more in line with hippie bands but is still a tiny off the track venue. I guess if they break big it would be a feather in the cap to say I was there when.

I doubt I'll make either of the BA shows, but I'm rooting for them.

Not at all a GD cover band, They do play at least One or Two covers, but mostly all original music and they do Jam!!!

Coyotte~

Big fan, plays a lot of good original tunes Go Set, Look Johnny II, Blues For Brian are all originals worth a listen. They cover a few Dead tunes but also will throw out The Kinks, Dr. John and even Jerry Reed.

Jersey kids (all under 30) went to a music school in Massachusetts.

Saw them 3 times last year and the Miami bandshell was the best show of the year for us.

Seen them just 1x but thought they were great. Compared to many prototypical jam-oriented bands, they can actually sing and carry harmonies. It's makes a huge difference.

will hit the Rickshaw Stop gig...

"The Rickshaw Stop in SF is really an odd booking"

ha

more likely to see a no stage diving then hippies use the side door sign in that that place

I haven't been there in ages probably a Dengue Fever show lol

Haven't been to Rickshaws since Nikki Bluhm did a residency there. Hit a bunch of those shows.

>>>Not at all a GD cover band, They do play at least One or Two covers, but mostly all original music<<<

That's good to hear. When I come across a clip it's most often a GD song, maybe just because of the lasting power of the Dead. Their name definitely doesn't help deflect the assumption of them as "just another Dead cover band".

It's always good to see young rock bands generating their own young fan base. Maybe I'll be the old guy at one of the BA shows.

i had the same impression lance, i think i finally realized they were not a GD cover band just 3-6mo ago when i randomly happened to see a setlist of theirs written down, and lo and behold, it wasnt a GD setlist. i still have not listened much, and from what i hear, they have a pretty good amount of that phish-y "general jamband" sound to their songs thats a pretty big turnoff for me, but i hear the improv is decent, and knowing they are not a cover band, i might try and catch them next time around.

i wonder if they know that their name causes people to write them off as a cover band. lance and i are both pretty well versed music listeners - we cant be the only ones who assumed this.

I felt the same 30 min in about DeadCo not being a GD cover band...

If any of you Westies hit the shows please update with a review, I heard the Nevada City shows really rocked!!! Thanks
