My one & only Dave Matthews Band show was at Jones Beach July 1996.

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones opened.  It was so loud, it was painful.

Seems early. Are they playing a matinee show today?

it was just a funny joke started on phantasy tour. i have never seen it used in a context that is not self deprecating. i think its pretty funny and use the phrase drug band or drug band message board pretty often. the humor is that we all know the dead and phish are kinda drug bands...a huge percentage of the fans like to take psychedelics at shows, the dead started by pretty much designing the current market for LSD and LSD production with bear...so yeah, we know they are kinda drug bands, but we also know they are so, so much more than a drug band. never even thought of it in the context of "its just a drug band message board so i have no responsibility." the zone and phantasy tour are obviously not just drug band message boards. but we kind of are. thats the joke. probably not very funny now that i have had to explain it to you.

figures id have to explain simple humor to some guy on a drug band message board.

I usually get mocked for discussing my recreational drug use here so I would just say no, that this is not a DBMB, perhaps more of a DEAMB, considering NOBODY ELSE here likes to party.

Ok can we get a list of drugs that are “OK” and a list of those that should be mocked? 

I will nominate “kratom” as a drug that should be mocked. And cigarettes. And krokodil.

i still go thru about a vial of L a year, mostly all for shows. almost all "big" dead shows or PLF lineups, most DNB shows, I am holding on for dear life. none of that pansy ass "ill just take 1 tonight" bullshit. Other zoners also partake, but i would guess alot of them dont post about it openly like i do, and then the few sticks-in-the-mud easily drown out the mostly silent majority. 

and there is no reason to mock kratom. kratom can treat pain that most folks would take prescription opiates for, but due to the way it acts on the opioid receptors, it does not cause respiratory depression, which is the cause of death for almost all opioid overdoses. it is cheap, easy to buy, and does not fuck people up like heroin or prescription opiods. it does carry a light physical dependence, but nothing like synthetic opioids, heroin, or poppy. many opiate addicts have sucsessfully switched from things like heroin or oxy to kratom and are now living normal, productive lives. Similar to maintenance therapy with methadone or suboxone, but there is no risk of overdose or death, it does not make you "nod" or get high, so you can live a normal, productive life, whereas many, many people who get into something like methadone maintenance are still getting so high they can barely function, with the folks at the clinic still calling it progress.

if research was done into how to safely use it as maintenance therapy or pain relief, tens of thousands of lives could be saved from overdose, and many times more than that might be spared a crippling addiction.

but since it is a natural plant that cant be patented, there is no money to be made when compared to patented synthetics, so here we sit with a massive opiate epidemic and the FDA working to ban the plant, and halt its importation in the meantime.

if you want a drug to mock, try jenkem.

Very awkward transition to shorthand / butchered internet slang somewhere around mid-set. Seemed to peter out towards the end. The material might not be so bad in a studio setting but really suffers live.
