Any Zoners going to this? A friend may be backing out and I may have an extra front row balcony seat that I'd like to get back what I paid for it. Hit me up if you or if you know someone that may be interested. Thanks
Quite an awesome artist based in Oaktown. He & his wife have been in LA area for the past weeks and saw DSO last night in Bev Hills???
He cut his teeth GD-wise 72-74, and has seen DSO a good handful of times, over the yrs. His wife is Swedish & was not in any way into the Dead prior to moving to the states.
----
Last eve's space Garcia wanderings.
DSO put forth quite the show
4 hours + minus a 30 ++minute long break
in that vibe of the Dead,
E* wondered. I explained
The Dead did it that way, so forth with DSO.
the break we wait
The theater was classic old 1920s art deco.
like many places like Fillmore, the Great American Music Theater,
Warfield, Orpheum, Wiltern, Fox theaters, place i love and are perfect for shows.
Show was a mixed bag/random show
I was disappointed at first then got over it around Mission in the Rain,
an old time fav of mine
Two things when i moved to SF to go to college
I headed down the the Wharf and looked for that song vibe
Found it
and went to the Mission and do believe eventually walked the Mission
in the Rain.
So it hit me it was a chance to hear a lot of different Dead material
over their long history
as usual DSO nailed Garcia Weir vocals and guitar sounds.
a good Dead crowd.
Ages from 80s to teens
a lot of guys as usual
some old timers
talked to a couple
he knew Janis and was there from 1967 in the Haight
he met Jerry a few times back when and had some cool tales
funny dude. he re-inacted physically the meetings with Janis and Jerry
E loved it. he was a charmer. works at UCLA and saw all the shows
went on the road....300+ shows...jeez
his wife was Garcia struck from way back when
they had never seen DSO had heard the name but it was recently they saw this show
advertised and there they were
I told them they woudl not be displeased
i hoped i was right and i was by 1230 when we were out on Wilshire heading
to the car
First set went over well, 90 minutes of the more short songs variety
then the 30-45 minute break and then they got serious.
John Molo (Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones, Bruce Hornsby etc) joined in the 2nd
half so they had three drummers
Drums > Space was about 45 minutes
Set 1
New Minglewood Blues..... Loser ....Me And My Uncle > Maggie's Farm
Mission In The Rain....Lazy Lightning > Supplication......Strange Man
When Push Comes To Shove....Dancing In The Street (in that late 70's style)
Now this where they kicked in big time
seemed like one long continuous set
Set 2
Liberty >Lost Sailor > Saint Of Circumstance
and here this was maybe 70-90 minutes of non stop sound
Terrapin Station Suite > Drums > Space > Saint Stephen > The Other One > Wharf Rat > One More Saturday Night
Encore
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
this outfit makes Dead & Co. look and sound well.....not good
What Happens in Vegas... so i cannot give details. THANK YOU VORT & fellow brothers/siseters of DSO! Myself and everyone else in the place was BLOWN AWAY and super thankful for the love/energy/music you brought. Bravo!
Absolutely shredded the show at Brooklyn Bowel. Which btw was not constipated (crowded) like shows there usually are. Also fwiw The Linq Hotel & Casino completed their room renovations in the last year or two and its a good value for being 1/2 block walk down Pedestrian Mall to concert venue. Plus an In-N-Out Burger opened up on same Ped Mall by BB.
