Was really disappointed in
Was really disappointed in the changes made to the book particularly cutting my favorite character, but as pure cinema it was great. As big of a success as it has been I'm sure they will go forward. Dune Messiah is the next book. The changes they made in Dune 2 could be foreshadowing some big changes from that book.
I really wish they would just take some time to explain the basics of the Dune universe to people but directors never seem to want to do that because I guess conversation is boring to them when you could be filming grand cinematic landscapes. I would bet that anyone who has only seen the movies wouldn't understand how interstellar travel happens - which is just a basic piece of knowledge you need to understand why everyone is so interested in the planet Dune.
