Durango

Forums:

Looking to spend a few days there for B-Day.   Would welcome any advice on where to stay, what to do, how to local five-o like to deal w/local tokers, especially considering that I will be a Cannabis Tourist although will not have the CO Rx card and will of course have to pay the extra taxes for the Adult Use lower THC stuff.

Thanks in advance to all who add their wisdom.

Test drove the one with new one with the HEMI. Sweet ride

(((((((((((((Dogman)))))))))))))

Stayed at the General Palmer long ago. It was nice, but the early morning steam train whistle was jarring

I was just there this summer and recommend Durango Organics for your recreational needs.  I was staying with a friend for my visit so cannot advise you on 5-0 and public enjoyment.  A pen would solve that issue if you go that route.  I'm not sure what you mean about the lower THC stuff.  Is that because of the increased cost, because hi test is certainly available, unless you don't consider 28% to be of that level!  Plenty of beer options in town too.  Three of my favorite places to go are Carver's, Ska, and Animas Brewing.  Have a great time!

Yeah, definitely look at a map of town to see if hotel will be next to train tracks ... although not sure when they stop running for the season?  The Doubletree is a bit removed from the train, but close enough to walk to main street.

Mesa Verde NP is close.  Silverton is about an hour drive, with Ouray about another 45 minutes further ... definitely worth the time if you have it.   If you have even more time, go back from Ouray via Ridgway -> Telluride -> Dolores -> Mancos.

The million dollar highway (550) is not for the squeamish. DRIVE SAFE. MESA Verde is a must.

Cool I got some peeps there !have fun

Lone Spur Cafe has a great pastrami on rye sanwich. Walking through the town it seemed like I smelled the reefers coming from the alleyways.

Lived there for four years in the early 2000's so a lot has probably changed since then but I used to work at Carvers and the beer and food, including the best bagels/bakery in town at the time, were both at the top of the brewpubs that were around at the time. If it's still there, don't go to Steamworks (or as we called it, Reamworks). The beer will probably give you a nasty hangover.

Trimble hot springs (about 15 minutes north of town) is pretty touristy but they have several pools, including a giant public pool sized one, at different temps. Worth a visit though if you like a really developed hot spring.

^^^Hey Across - Did you happen to know Griz Kelley during your time in Durango?  Working at Carver's, you would have probably crossed paths more than a few times.

If you get through Mancos the health food store (Zuma) has a great little cafe for sandwiches & other food items.

Spac 84, I may have but can't recall for sure. I remember a few of us would head out back often during our shifts to feed our heads but I only worked there for a few months before moving on.

I do remember my first night working there and bs'ing with the manager at the end of the night over a beer and when he asked if I moved there with a gf (which I did) he gave his condolences and said he didn't know many couples who moved there together that stayed together for long. Sure enough we ended up breaking up four months later and my ex ended up moving back home to NY  while I stayed out west for the long haul.
