Dusty Baker - EC Reference

Forums:

Always liked Dusty, intelligent calm demeanor and down to earth personality. Seems to be the polar opposite of La Russa who always looks like he's pissed off at everything. Be nice to see Dusty win it all.

CHICAGO -- Astros manager Dusty Baker pushed back on Chicago White Sox reliever Ryan Tepera's comments regarding potential sign stealing by Houston, calling them "heavy accusations."

"They're about the same runs, OPS and everything as we are -- well, actually, better on the road than we are at home," Baker said Monday afternoon. "And I think they're actually better at home than they are on the road.

"So I don't have much response to that other than I was listening to Eric Clapton this morning, and he had a song, 'Before You Accuse Me (Take a Look at Yourself).' ... You know what I mean? That's all I got to say."

Stay off Tony's lawn.

Like the Astros, Clapton stole that song, in this case, from Bo Diddley.

Dusty --- something tells me he jams out to Bo too.

He is now the first manager in baseball history to lead five different teams to the postseason. Baker had previously taken the Giants (1997, 2000, 2002), Cubs (2003), Reds (2010, 2012, 2013), and Nationals (2016, 2017) to the the playoffs.

Only two other managers in history have led as many as four teams to the postseason: Billy Martin (Athletics, Tigers, Twins, Yankees) and Davey Johnson (Mets, Orioles, Nationals, Reds)

Sorry Dusty but I always enjoyed seeing the Giants fail in the post season during the Bonds years. It wasn't just because he was a mammoth juicer, lots of guys juiced,, he always seemed to be playing for himself, never the team. Big Head Barry,, fuck him.

It's impossible to not like Dusty Baker (at least after he wasn't a Dodger anymore).

The man's class is real, as is his talent.

Plus, he likes the Grateful Dead (he used to go to the Fillmore and hang out in GG Park when he was a teen in Sacramento).

Everywhere he's managed he's won, but has never been able to win a championship. He came close with the Giants in '02 and he got Bartmaned in Chicago.

Everybody loves to hate the Astros nowadays, and there's some reason for that, but if the Giants don't make this year it I'll be rooting for Dusty.

Common' Raz, don't sully a good thread by bringing up Barry Bum.

Oh, and...

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just can't get worked up about cheating in baseball. It's just part of the game and if you don't think it is then why does everyone talk into their gloves. That said the Astros took it to another level and I think every one got the punishment they deserved and we all move on. I will always be a Dusty Baker fan. Bonds was probably the greatest baseball player of our lifetime and also the biggest asshole in all of sports. I have zero sympathy for his legacy and I could care less about juicing. If I was in charge everyone would get to juice from the age of 32 on.

Go Giants - Go Red Sox. It's been a great run since 2004 and I just might have to choose this year.

Probably the greatest hitter in MLB history.

Dusty was a damn good hitter, but greatest in history?

Ohhhh, you're talking about Bonds.

Yeah, he probably was the greatest hitter in MLB history.

But he's almost certainly the biggest piece of phony shit scumbag of a human being in MLB history.

I'm not sure which one is more important.

(Actually, I'm pretty sure)

And eight gold gloves and number 34 on the all time stolen base list.

Dusty is a total class act. I met him at The Track in Del Mar on the off day before the Padres / Astros series about 6 weeks ago. He was very genuine and talked w me and my colleague who is an old school Cubs fan from way back. Very nice guy and willing to talk baseball w strangers.

Congrats to Dusty and the Astros for taking out my White Sox. They were clearly the better team these 4 games. The Sox under performed but the Astros are a helluva team. They hit like they know what pitch is coming. wink

Oh, and when the Astros beat the Dodgers (fuck the Dodgers) in the World Series, Jose Altuve will be the mvp. That little mf'r can play some ball.

and the hat size of Andre the Giant, fuck him

go tribe!

So Dusty hangs out at the track on his off days? That's cool.

Dusty won a ring in '81 as a player but get that he never picked one up as a coach.  I do wonder about the Clapton quote. Meaning, yeah... I manage a bunch of fucking cheaters but why don't the other teams look in the mirror.  Like everyone is cheating?  Confusing comment.

I think his comment is more, "We're as clean as anyone else now and we're going to kick your ass anyway."

Atta' boy Dusty.

At The Track he said he would like nothing more than to go through Boston & The Dodgers on the way to a WS Championship.

fuck the astros.
