Meetings in Saudi Arabia, pay no attention to human life, it doesn't seem like things are getting better.

But the most important thing I've realized in the last couple of days is that whatever is going on in the U.S., what may be affecting me the most is the chaos, something new to the way we see our gov't behaving. This is not new to many other countries, they already live with it. But we've had at least a semblance of order, orderly process, in the way that changes occur for a long time. We don't know how to "adjust" to things changing so quickly, with so much flailing about, and what seems like process toward an unknown, but stated, result. I'm emotionally undone by the swirling actions, by what seems like recklessness, without regard to the effect on our people and everyone else on the planet.
Like the value of water, air, trees (respiration, preventing erosion, economic), wildlife, etc. I freaked out when during T.1 animals were wholesale taken off the Endangered Species list - we are so far beyond that.
I have to keep remembering to exhale after sharp, shocked intakes of breath.

Just listened to an interview
Just listened to an interview on CNN by some reporter who has been following a group of voters who went for Clinton in 2016, Biden in 2020, and Trump in 2024. They are saying they really don't like Trump, but feel like currently "Things" are at least getting done. They said like they felt nothing was getting done under Biden. Like the country has been kinda stuck and now at least there is movement.
I don't understand any of it. Yeah, things are moving, but towards what? I feel like as a country we have taken off the white cowboy hat and put on the black cowboy hat. I know this country has always had huge issues. I thought at least we were moving towards a more inclusive society, albeit at a slow pace or a type of.punctuated equilibrium. Sometimes we make big changes quickly like in the 60's with all the civil rights legislation or with reconstruction after the Civil War, but then we always take two steps back. Look at what just happened with Womens' rights. My God! Now we are in bed with Putin and MBS. Jesus F'ing Christ.
I just have to believe that the pendulum will swing back. If people want a President to have way more power and Congress is willing to cede its power, then that is a whole new dynamic. I don't know if it is a good dynamic, but maybe a Democratic president will get elected and just declare a healthcare emergency and create a universal heath care system without the help of Congress. What if Obama had done that? I have to believe that once a program like that is in place for just a couple years that nobody would want to go back, even your Trump cultists. Love to all and Peace.

On a day to day basis I'm not
On a day to day basis I'm not seeing or being affected by the King's insane policy dictates but that doesn't mean I won't soon. My base level of general anxiety is much higher since the election. I stay away from reading or listening to national news; it's just too depressing. Thinking about what may happen over the next four years is scary.
As Judit said, it's the chaos that is unsettling but that is a deliberate tactic on this administrations part. Overwhelming the establishment with huge numbers of executive orders and proclamations just so we get sensory overload and essentially numb to it all.
Joe - the hippies thought that they could change the gov't by dosing the water supply in the 1968 movie "Wild in the Streets". Didn't work in the movie or out in the real world.....so far.

With Musk's minions grubbing around in the IRS and SS, I am afraid my benefit and tax refund checks will go awry.

I'm anxious about the social security. Planning to start collecting in January 2026. I noticed in researching the different payouts as i played with the date to retire. I was going to retire this November, but noticed if I waited until January I would get an additional $100 per month. The price going month to month only went up about $17.00 a month for months during 2025

It would never work, Slickrock. The dilution ratio is far too much. It was a sweet thought, though.
I am 8 years away from full SS, and, as of now, that will bring a max of 2k / month ( no 401k, no pension, no trust fund, and little savings) and without a significant other to help out with their SS, that ain't gonna go far, now or in 8 more years, so i suppose if i want to live in the good ol US of A, I should invest in a van and find a nice view of a river, sooner than later. OR, I'll have to do like many Americans do and keep working in some capacity for whatever years i have left. Either way, so what? I ( and many of us here) will be dead sooner than later, and, like it or not, my children will have to continue to work and find a way for themselves, just like we all have.
And the Dead, whom we all seem to admire so much, didn't protest at all, that I know of, (isn't that the main reason why the gov of Egypt let them play at the pyramids?) They chose to create their own world to live in. Call it a bubble if you want, but they seemed to do pretty well within that framework, while chaos ensued all around them. Chaos is not new. The universe is built on entropy. It's what's for dinner, every day, like it or not.
As far as SS goes, i believe - i may very well be wrong - that even these fools understand that move would be political suicide for the pubes for many terms to come if they fucked with SS payments for the masses. They may cut SS payments for folks who make over a certain amount per year, like 200K, but to take away the only life support for many Americans, I just don't see that happening. But, like i stated, I may be wrong.
The votes are in, the other half won, the election is over, and the inauguration happened. It's done. I'm not going to feed on their bullshit when i am free to make my own choices, daily. For those who feel the need to protest, Bless Your Hearts. I hope it brings some change, but i feel that with the current administration, even those efforts have about as much hope to bring about positive change as dosing the water supply. YMMVl
