cool

I saw ELO once--we went because Kingfish opened.  September 19, 1978 at the Spectrum in Philly--Weir had checked-out by then.  This was when Kingfish released their Trident album. We we right on the side and Kingfish did their Marin rock & roll--I was hard into the Live & Kickin album in those days.  Then, ELO came out--I should say, came up from a spaceship like riser through the stage floor.  It was a real rock production--not the simple Kingfish just guitars and playing. They were one of the major rock bands at that time--they released Out of The Blue the year before.  It was big fun--they had a lush, highly produced sound.  Came for Kingfish, left appreciating ELO a whole lot more than when I entered the Spectrum

ELO was the first band I saw live. At the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland during the Out if the Blue tour. Don't remember who opened. Second band was Boston, opening act Sammy Hagar.

^ Maybe Steve Hillage?

I also saw ELO once, at the Hartford Civic Center in April 1977. I kinda wished Kingfish had opened like at Greasyheart's 78 show, but we got a prog rock band called Starcastle instead. It was a pretty good show as I recall, with all of their hits at that time played, plus some deep cuts, and a pretty nifty laser show.

ELO, meh.

Some good songs and a unique approach, but ultimately too much of that, not enough of "THIS".

And even if they only lasted about five minutes, Starcastle was a good band.

A bit of a fake Yes, but still, a good band. Better than a Weir-less Kingfish.

Lance, I will say that version of Kingfish was pretty smokin--up their with the Weir versions, just different.  Love that Weir era but it was a good transition period. I saw them in 78 with the NRPS and Robert Hunter at the Capitol is Passaic and then in 79 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park with Jorma and then the Spectrum show that was a hot little band.
