ELP 50?

Forums:

Emerson, Lake & Palmer is doing a 50th anniversary tour with Palmer playing drum live to previously unseen footage of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. I can't fathom people spending actual ticket money for this.

Yeah, no. I saw ELP in 1977. That was plenty.

My first show I was 10. Saw them again at the Warfield in 98 with Deep Purple.

I played Brain Salad Surgery over and over again as a kid, but yeah no spot taken on this. I just hope he is doing OK.

Ha! I was a big ELP/Yes fan in middle & high school.  I always credited them to being a gateway to GD music because I learned to listen to longer pieces of music through them. But a hard pass on this performance.

You gotta admit

it's one of the coolest album covers ever

no spot taken

This sounds too stupid to actually happen.

Right?

I mean . . .

What?

No.

I also was a huge fan in the '70s, but their music didn't age as well for me as other bands of the time I liked.

But even if I was still a huge fan I wouldn't see this, even if it was free.

I did spend money on a somewhat similar type deal quite a few years ago, when most or all of Elvis Presley's Las Vegas band played live along with videos of Elvis singing. I figured it was a chance to see James Burton, Jerry Scheff and Ron Tutt play live and it wasn't too expensive, but it also wasn't that great a show.

I guess I just like my concerts to have living people playing in the same room that I'm in at the time.

Call me crazy.

Seems like this thread just might produce that rarest of black screen phenomena: a harmonic convergence of universal agreement.

Nope.  Doo'lil is probably waiting on pre-sale.smiley

I was also a huge ELP fan in high school and I, too, find their music hasn't aged as well as other band's ,music.  myself very lucky to have seen the Works tour at Madison Square Garden with the full orchestra. I sat very close to the mixing board which was amazing to see in action. Every instrument had it's own channel and there were 4 operators mixing the sound with multiple boards that took up a full lower level section of the Garden. The sound was unbelievable from where I was sitting.

Immediately after the MSG shows, ELP had to declare bankruptcy and finish the tour as their regular 3 piece. A few late starts and paying a bunch of union orchestra musicians overtime drained every dollar that they had in 2 weeks. It was certainly a time of excess.

>>it's one of the coolest album covers ever

Yeah wish I still had my Brain Salad Surgery album. I loved the art on Tarkus too. Also don't listen to them at all anymore.

I caught the slimmed-down version a few months after the MSG show.

^^^^Is that a jab at me Thumbprick??

And I saw them in 77 also Mikey at Soldier Field. Great show with Foghat, J.Geils and Climax Blues Band/ . Full Orchestra

> Is that a jab at me

It was the funniest thing I read on the zone today, that is until I read your unsuccessful attempt at a witty comeback, do-little.

Mikey shouldn't you be at Victoria Secret trying on lingerie! There's probably a summer closeout sale going on.laugh

Strange that you don't see how strange it is that you like to think of me wearing lingerie, do-little.

Back in middle school, we used to call this having a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. I wonder if kids still call it that these days.

Are you trying to say you never wore a womans dress and high heels Mikey!!!laugh

I sure did, and I crushed it too, but what's more fascinating is how that image has burned its way so deep into your noggin. And morphed into lingerie too. That's some deep shit, dude.

(Please note, I didn't say "your brain" because no evidence exists for such a thing. Not around these parts, at least.)

Give it up, do-llittle. Your quest is akin to banging your head against a wall. It only hurts until you stop.

Mikey your not really great at comebacks. How can anyone get that image out of there brains. It was pathetic and scary!!.

Stay on your egoistic weed thread Ed Rosenthal wannabelaugh

You're

Their

Whatevs.

Great cumback Mikey.

How many cums have you had on your back!??laugh

Let me guess. You googled "nasty comebacks" and went with the first hit.

So do you fantasize about men in lingerie with cum splattered on their backs a lot? If it's impeding your ability to live a full life, you might want to look into getting some help for that.

You lose this one Mikey!

Just give it up!

You can't win!

I'm sorry Judit and other people but this guy is such a douche and creates drama.here because he's Mr. Pot Grower know it all!

Carl Palmer is touring with his band, with the addition of the videos from an ELP Royal Albert Hall show.  Seems cheesy, but his band is really good!

I saw him a few years ago when he did a benefit art show and performance with his band for a local foundation. The art show was nice and it was cool to meet him but the show itself was meh

In 2010, I saw Emerson, Lake and a drum machine. That was a surprisingly excellent concert.

Paramount Theatre, Peekskill, NY - May 11, 2010 - Emerson, Lake & Drum Machine. Pirates was pretty good :)

What, no love for Emerson, Lake, and Powell?  Saw them in a half- full Kaiser Aud.  It was kinda sad.

Well, at least I got to see a Carl Palmer drum solo when I saw Asia at the Warfield.
