The Encyclopedia Of Jerry Garcia Music Venues Kickstarter Campaign is going LIVE! on June 3, 2023.
I'm getting bombed by emails for this project the last week or so, three more just today, where did he get my address?? Copy makes it sound like a good read...
Fourteen years ago I began writing The Encyclopedia Of Jerry Garcia Music Venues. It's the only book that combines all of Jerry's side band dates and the Grateful Dead's dates together by venue.
Alphabetically by state, there are 1300 venues that include rehearsal, recording, performance, living spaces and planned/canceled show venues. The history of each venue is here including architects, builders, owners, opening night performances and other notable appearances, murals, statues, stage prosceniums, backstage areas, pipe organs, secret rooms, hidden tunnels, restorations and demolitions. Jerry's history at each venue includes the bands he played with, set lists, opening acts and other information giving the reader an idea of what went down at every date on every tour. In many cases via dated photos, what guitar Jerry was playing, and other anecdotal stuff that we love to read.

this is unbelievable. this
this is unbelievable. this announcement comes mere days before my own planned announcement of "The Encyclopedia of John Kadlecik Music Venues", listing all of his shows with DSO, Furthur and other side projects by venue.
i cant help but think that this entire project was conceived around the massive hype generated by my own project, and this announcement was planned specifically to steal the thunder from my own.

Seems a little creepy/stalky, but since Jerry's/the GD's legacy shows no signs of fading with new generations, as time moves on I suppose this could be seen as a useful history book.
And good luck on your Fake Jerry book daylight. No spot taken, as I have my own Fake Jerry Venues Played list that I've been exhaustively keeping for years now.

Greatly looking forward to this, should the Kickstarter reach it's goal. I'll be kicking.
His blog was very good and I have considerable interest in venues and location cities, particularly as it relates to Garcia and The Grateful Dead as they often played a role in the construct of music. The 3-way consciousness between band-fans-locations are inextricably connected. Lots of tea leaves to be read when perusing the history, period and geography of said locations.

I have some interest in GD venues, but a lot more in getting these E-mails to stop.. Labeled it spam, hope it will end. Not a fan of GFM for non-medical reasons.

I saw Jerry in a lot of different venues. As far as I'm concerned the 3 best were Keystone, The Bottom Line, and Capitol Theater, Passaic. Just MHO.
