The model can be easily broken. Create a ticket selling platform that not only has fees that are only 10% what Ticketmaster charges. To seal the deal, the platform pays the artist or venue 8% of what fees are collected. That leave 2% of every ticket sale fee for profit. Considering this will take over all of Ticketmasters business, 2% would be a shit ton of money. Who's in? Vivatickets anyone? We could do this!
i have not given a dime to ticketmaster in over 5 years and have no plans to do so again in the forseeable future. the variable pricing model/scalped tickets sold on ticketmaster thing was the final nail in the coffin for me.

You do realize that it's not TM but the artists, and promoters to a lesser degree, who are mainly responsible and approve it every time, right? And that it's not just TM that does this, and that it's the massive outside scalping machine that has created it. Right?
Complain about the fee's, but if re-selling tickets for more than face were outlawed then most of the main issues that people complain about would disappear, and the politicians would have to find something else to be wrong about.
Obviously, outlawing the re-selling of something for profit isn't going to happen, but as long as scalping is legal then the market will set the value of the product, and if a ticket is priced at $100 but is selling for $750, don't you think the money should go the people creating the product?
And Mark, you've gone to a Giants game or two in the past five years, haven't you? The Giants & TM thank you for that.
I know the artists are in on it and surely getting a nice cut but the main issue for the ticket-buying consumers seems to be the overly cozy 2009 merger of Ticketmaster and LiveNation 'arrangement' that creates a "secondary" market that is not secondary at all and, oh yea, the outlandish fees on top of it all.

It's not just the fees though
It's not just the fees though; it's also fees on top of fees when resale is involved.
