F1 - The Cat and the Burn

Forums:

So on Saturday my 15 year old cat Dunkin (was named after Duncan Idaho but became Dunkin Donuts). Developed another bladder infection and was peeing blood all over the house. Not his fault. We have a nice rug in the living room (it brings the whole room together) and I noticed that he was hanging out on the rug. So I decided to roll the rug up and the no slip mat under the rug and leave it rolled up until he gets better.

It's Saturday afternoon and we had nothing to do because my wife got Covid last week and we had to cancel our plans for the weekend. We decide to watch a movie and we decided on F1. I was a huge fan in my youth even had an Emerson Fittipaldi JPS Black and Gold poster on my wall -  way back when. The movie has been on for about 2 hours (the movie does go on and on) and there is high drama around tires - will they last - which tires to use, and generally a lot of close up of smoking tires. At the same time being late afternoon the sun is streaming in through the french doors out to the back yard.

Right about then we start smelling burning rubber, and look at each other. Is there a smell feature to this movie we don't know about. I figure it must be a truck that passed by or something but the smell doesn't go away. I pause the movie and go outside into the 100 degree heat to do a sweep of the perimeter looking for the source. Everything is fine outside no smell at all the AC unit is not on fire. Go back in the house and the smell is getting worse. Now I'm worried that something is burning in the house. After going through the whole house and finding nothing I sit down on the couch wondering if I need to go up in the attic which I really don't want to do on a 100 degree day. That's when I look over and see the rolled up no slip mat that is rubber backed with the sun streaming though the french doors beating down on it and off gasing rubber smell. Crises averted.

Anyway long way of saying that the averted rubber fire was the by far the most exciting thing about one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Wait until F1 is free on some streaming service and then don't watch it. You will have saved 2 hours and 45 minutes that would be better spent watching paint dry.

This past weekend we watched "Sweet Smell of Success  - a 1957 American film noir satirical drama film directed by Alexander Mackendrick, starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, and more."

And "Becoming Led Zeppelin ---  new interviews, previously unseen footage and performances, this documentary tells the origin story of Led Zeppelin in the iconic band's own words."

Liked them both.

After seeing Grand Prix in 1967 in a huge large screen theater as a 7-year-old, I have never been able to be interested in another racing movie.

Glad your house didn't burn down, and good luck with the poor cat.

Funny that a movie about F1 is 3 times longer than what a race lasts. I love the technology of F1 but  F1 is hard to get into for me, because the races ends so quickly. At least they have not ruined the sport like Indy Car has.

Too bad the races aren't as interesting as the Netflix Documentaary

Loved the Led Zeppelin documentary especially  the early years. I really liked the Billy Joel one as well also the early years. I think it's because they can be honest about the early years and they either can't remember what happened in the drug years or just don't want to talk about it. According to the doc Joel made a total of $7k on the Piano Man album. That was one hell of a contract he signed.

Yeah I'm not into to F1 anymore. I grew up in Germany and it was the only thing on TV so I was into then. Watched so many races where the top 10 at the start were the top 10 at the finish which is not very exciting.

Don't know if Brad Pitt just didn't care and was in it for the check or because his condition where he can't make out faces makes it hard for him to act, but I've seen better acting in porn and he is usually pretty good.

Cat is fine now that he is on anti biotics.
