Facebook Has Watched You Browse The Web For Years. And No, “Clear History” Won’t Really Stop It.

“When you see what they see, it’s going to be very terrifying for everyone.”

How do the facebookers feel about this??

Not really news for many. If I use a free service, I'm paying for it in some manner. I have a choice of not using that service if I feel it is too intrusive.

Wait till we find out about the higher intelligence that’s been watching  us for millennia.

Wake up to find out...

Why would they bother?

Are you saying that "anything goes" if the product or service is free?

Yup, sounds like anything goes if the service is free.

Are you saying that "anything goes" if the product or service is free?

I'm saying that when you sign up for a free service, you are presented with a Terms Of Service (TOS) notice that you agree to in order to use the service. Before you agree to using their service, you must AGREE to that TOS. If you don't agree, you don't use the service. In this case, Facebook told you up front what they can do and the user agreed to that.

Facebook Pixels and other technology track you even when not using Facebook, that’s not in TOS.  People should be concerned, it’s way more than the simplistic idea that if you use a free service you should not expect privacy, you should.

That was always my assumption, I use FB as little as possible.

And I will never have an Alexa type device in my house.

I've been meaning to start one of those Facebook accounts for years.

Should I hold off until they have the kinks worked out?

Actually it is in the TOS. Any web site that uses Facebook technology, for instance a like button (yes, FB owns the like button) is something FB can and will track. It's the same with Google products such as Google Analytics (used by just about everyone with a web site).

It has always amazed me that so few people read the full Terms of Service for any web site before they start using it. In almost all cases it illuminates all the gathering and sharing that is done from your visit.

I never signed up for Facebook and never will....
