Took the boat out in Earls part of the world a couple weeks ago and caught a bunch of trout.
Son comes in from Denver next Friday and I was thinking about heading back to the Skyway Bridge area, but now I am thinking Titusville and mosquito lagoon, oh boy what to do
Mullet run over anything, thickest it has been in years. Down here in Martin county there are more lunker snook than tarpon and the schools come within 20 feet of the shore.
I stay more in the shallow waters in my skinny boat, so I am more in the Indian River, and they run in there too. Dolphin are the best to watch working the heard of Mullet. They are more like cowboys hearding cattle, in setting up the point of attack. Different than the feeding frenzy of other species. You will see huge schools of HUGE Fat Red Fish almost as big as the schools of mullet In the river when they are running
when it gets cold the mullet will group together to stay warm in small Pockets in the water. I have caught 30 big ones with one throw of the cast net before.
Technically I guess it is really a brackish lagoon for 121 miles of Central Florida's Intracoastal waterways on the east coast, mixture of fresh water from rivers and salt water from the ocean. Mostly shallow waters and we get sharks, dolphin, rays, snook, triple tail, reds, trout, and crocodiles in there.
The mullet just starting running in NJ last weekend. There are also silversides (spearing) and peanut bunker leaving the bays via inlets in mass. The next couple of weeks will be surf fishing nirvana. In a usual run The striped bass turn on, the bluefish go crazy, Little Tunny (False Albacore or Bonito as known in the Southern Atlantic), Bonito (actual fish and quite tasty), various rays and sharks, weakfish and this year should have more than a few bluefin tuna taking the bait. There are bluefins everywhere off the coast this year. Most are in the 30 - 50lb range but there have been a number of giants ranging from 500lb and upward towards 1000lbs on near shore structure. Needless to say, most of those giants will never hit the beach because they will overpower the gear people use. On occasion though, there have been tuna over 500lbs landed from the beach. Once in the 1940's a tuna was landed in Asbury Park, NJ that weighed in at 913 lbs after a fight of over 19 hours. There was a crowd of close to 1000 people watching the battle unfold by the time it was over.
Everything that swims considers mullet fish candy. . .
The bigger mullet will be 100 yards or so, the finger mullet usually as close as your toes. It's cool when a predator chases the school onto the sand. Thousands of finger mullet floppin on the beach.
First reports of mullet up in Vero Beach and thick up by Sebastian.
God this time of the year makes me hard.
Last year it was cut short due to Rona, this year I'm 80 pounds lighter and my shoulder is feeling swell. Time to get sand between my toes for the next month or so. Just hoping the Canes stay away.

You can smoke silver mullet
You can smoke silver mullet and it makes a good dip but the mullet is the bait.
It starts in August?September they gather from their summer haunts in the Virginia to Georgia area and head to the keys.
I have seen schools of mullet miles and miles long with every predator you can imagine.
Im a life long east coast Florida fisherman. Even if you only fish one time a year I would recommend the run.
You usually catch
Snook
Tarpon
Redfish
Bluefish
Mackerel
Shark
We have caught also a mixed bag of bonita, cobia, snapper, remoras, wahoo and one time my buddies caught and released a sailfish!
Report later!!

After dinner last night we decided to wander to the beach to see if anything was shakin, Fuck yea it was
Only had my utility rod with me a 7 foot med action with 360 yards of 30# braid line with 50 yards of 20# mono.
I didn't have shit with me except a couple of lures, I threw on my top water wind cheater, red and white make fish bite.
Second cast a huge 150-200 pound monster tarpon nails it, grayhounds 410 yards off my pole and not a damn thing I could do about it. Stripped!!
Needless to say I'm geared up and rolling out. Its that time again.
