Fantasy SNL

Forums:

In a recent article in The New Yorker, the TV critic Vinson Cunningham noted that "It is customary in a situation like mine—preparing to hold forth on 'Saturday Night Live'—to divulge which performers would make his ideal cast."

I don't know whether that's actually customary or not, but it sounded like a good idea for a Zone thread. So who would make up your ideal SNL cast from the roster of Not Ready for Prime Time Players over the years?

Mine goes like this:

Dan Aykroyd
John Belushi
Gilda Radner
Bill Murray
Eddie Murphy
Mike Myers
Maya Rudolph
Kate McKinnon

Good one Mike.

How about

John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Sarah Sherman, Phil Hartman

Will Ferrell has to be in there, Chris Farley makes a strong case and Phil Hartman sometimes gets lost in these discussions but that guy was magic. And I'd put Jane Curtain and Ana Gasteyer in the conversation as well.

For me SNL has always been about who is funny even when the skit isn't. Who's funny reading a newspaper, who's funny no matter what.

Maybe I'm old now, but nothing much has stood out to me for a really long time.

But then again, nowadays Trump and his wacky bunch are feeding them softball after softball after softball, so I'd have to imagine even the current cast will hit a few good shots.

If Trump can't make 'em funny nobody can.

Bill Murray was on Howard this day

Excellence

Also at this moment I have no answer to this question

I would take the two current weekend update guys, with a lil Roseanna Rosannadanna sprinkled in
