Larry Campbell ......w Phil.. Anytime !

-John Hartford with a microphone mounted on the bridge of his RayBans while he fiddled "Hey Babe Ya Wanna Boogie," and strolled through the human London Bridge made by thousands of fans at Telluride BG Fest back in '91!

-Darol Anger fiddling madly over all the great songs during the one and only recreation of Tony Rice's Manzanita Album at Rockygrass back in '07 (with Tony, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Barry Bales, Darol and Dan Tyminski handling all of Tony's vocals due to Tony's Throat Cancer.)

-Jean-Luc Ponty wailing on New Country at Strawberry Music Fester back around 2010 alongside Bela Fleck and Stanley Clarke.

-Mark O'Connor killing it with Strength in Numbers at '91 Telluride (alongside Sam, Jerry, Bela and Edgar Meyer!)

-Mark O'Connor with Dixie Dregs at the Pier in NYC back in '84!

-Papa John Creach at the Bottom Line way back in '84! (Keb Mo was the lead guitarist.)

No - but I was there twice - w backstage passes cause my pal and neighbor was Pop's Manager.

I love Darol Anger with anyone, and Bobby Hicks has always been a favorite, but when it comes to "fiddling" it's always Stephane Grappelli and then everyone else for me.

The first time I saw him I was maybe 20 and had no idea who he was, and was absolutely blown away, as I was every time I was lucky enough to see him after that. The dude was as fast & weightless as a hummingbird. One of the greatest musicians I've ever seen.

I was at this show, at the old Mountain Winery, back in the day...

Natalie McMaster is currently the worlds best fiddler.

But I was very impressed with Eleanor Whitmore playing with Los Lobos last weekend.  She sings so sweet as well.

And so I just checked out Maddock.  Let's call it a good trade.  Enjoy.

Thanks Man.

I had the same experience as Lance re Grappelli.  I used to hit jazz shows with my Dad when I was a youngun and one this occasion he said we were going to see a violin player.  I was very disappointed until Grappelli blew me the fuck away.

Fave moments--Suwannee Springfest 2000, dance tent. Vassar Clements has his big "Hillbilly Jazz" band (get the album if you can find it, my fave).  That band was so sharp, the crowd was so into it, it was a big steamy sweaty get down.  This is same band, same fest from an outdoor set, gives you the flavor.

There is this thing called LIFE, go out and live it, dance a little even ~

Posey Rorer (September 22, 1891 - June 6, 1936) was an American old-time fiddler who was best known for being a member of the American string band Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers.

Posey Rorer.

How do you define a poser, Cumberlyn?

~ Someone whom counts "karma points" on a mssg board , yet has no clue a bout real life karma !
~ Someone who's  values are measured by their narcissistic opinions and does not think anyone else's matter !
~ Someone that is SO annoying and busy " talking their talk"  that they have lost their way and can no longer "walk the walk" ...;(

Do you ever just go to a show, allow the music to totally absorb you...let all your inhibitions go and.....

21739_10200192520598948_1781152161_n_1.jpg

then never to speak a word of it, as you see this experience was meant for YOU alone...it's  ALL yours ...:)
That is NOT a poser to me, one who feels and becomes one with the music, with no need to validate it to others by way of critique or review.....because, it really doesn't matter anyway ~

Oh wow you took my question seriously, that's pretty funny.

But then you're usually good for a laugh, so thanks.

Also "dancer water droplets," what a weird thing to search for in google images.

Been into a few female fiddle players recently; Gina Romantini, Lillie Mae Rische and The Parkington Sisters.

I really Enjoyed the Warren Haynes Ashes and Dust project.

I make notecards and hand them out to folks at shows so I have a ton of images...that is one of my favs.

When Rome was burning

I don't know if this was post previously,  but this is pretty great!

lol Timmy

Playing the fiddle or banjo is thought to be a special accomplishment of the devil

The crossroads is the most popular place to perform a specific hoodoo crossroads ritual to learn a skill -- to play a musical instrument, for instance, or to become proficient at throwing dice, dancing, public speaking, or whatever one chooses. As this ritual is usually described, you bring the item you wish to master -- your banjo, guitar, fiddle, deck of cards, or dice -- and wait at the crossroads on three or nine specified nights or mornings. On your successive visits you may witness the mysterious appearances of a series of animals. On your last visit, a " big black man" will arrive. If you are not afraid and do not run away, he will ask to borrow the item you wish to learn. He will show you the proper way to use the item by using it himself. When he returns it to you, you will suddenly have the gift of greatness.

Fascinating article on Hoodoo and the Crossroads....

wait for the hate. it always shows up eventually

Why don't you pinpoint exactly where it first surfaced in this thread for us, consiglieri?

And why bring it up when its currently going just fine unless you love stirring shit amd picking scabs?

My buddy, SF73, does not like to tango.

You gotta have some kind of exciting life, Six.

I danced myself right out the womb
Is it strange to dance so soon, Five?

What's strange - Atiex is also a shit stirrer but shamey finger doesn't call him out.

Can't we all be worthy of call outs?

Hmm...it's possible, but improbable.

>>> wait for the hate. it always shows up eventually <<<

Seems like things were rolling along pretty well without that, 6.

Really, Judit - so you are okay with peeps giving shit to Lynn - even if they do it subtly? I always thought you were for kindness and peace. My mistake.

Seems like everything was fine since Friday afternoon and you come in Monday morning stirring the shit with your shamey finger.

Lo and behold!  Looks like you got one back.

Lo and behold - and there you are to point it out.

Monday morning = 455 PM? Maybe I am behind the time after all?

Great thread, really good links & couple of chuckles too.

<<<455 PM? Maybe I am behind the time after all?

Oh, I didnt realize it had been rolling along fine all day monday, too,  before you picked the scab.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Oh Look !!!

The Geranium pusher posted a meme.

I just want you to know, that it's going to be ok Timmy.

There IS a solution....

You, Latex, and St. Snot just need to stop stirring the shit.

It's time to shovel Yourselves OUT of the shit !!!

For only $29.99 .....

Using a different picture of an old lady looking out the window was a big risk.  Glad you enjoyed it.

I wonder if 6 chuckled or if his sense of humor is as poor as yours?  Maybe lighten up a little.

For some reason when RRG says 'it's going to be okay,' I have a hard time believeing it.

Better make room on the pile for another thread.

6,  I am kinda used to it by now, yes...even Judit has had her moments towards me or not being bothered by folks giving me shit :( . There are a certain "click" of woman here that are very insecure of a strong and confident women who speaks her mind and really has passed that stage of caring what they think. You see from going  to a lot of shows and witnessing that they are mostly bullshit as, going out for a smoke/ yakking it up/getting drunk ... when a crazy intense  jam is happening at that moment and that takes precedence over the music !!

Has helped to realize that I am the phreak I  am...and proud of it !!

Especially when MOST of the wonderful zoner woman I have had the pleasure to share a show with and groove on all nite with are truly made of the same grain as me, that is magic ~ and only can happen in person at a show, that is ALL I need...really <3.

So NO....not all that say  "Hippy Dippy" and " Peace n Love" ......are what they appear to be :(

Thats the stuff!

We missed you Fidd.

Bless your heart.

>>>>>>>when a crazy intense  jam is happening at that moment

You really are a slave to the Jam.

Good to read, Lyn.

Lots of wonderful older Zoners of both genders no longer zone and it's a shame.

There are also a certain set of women who help create an experience behind the scenes.  One of those women or men might even provide you with a cup of water when you've jammed out too hard!  Imagine.
