FDA, CDC recommend pausing use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reports of rare but severe blood clots

Forums:

8 people so far have had strokes. Ages 18-45. I just got my first shot yesterday by Pfizer. No after effects so far. I would have never gotten the J&J as there were too many negative reports about it.

Hope Briank is ok!

All good here.

My very astute daughter pointed out that the chance of a clot from J&J is roughly 1/10,000. THe chance of a clot from the birth control pill is 1/800.

Well NJ and NY and some other state have stopped the usage of it.

And glad to hear your fine.

"Six recipients in the U.S. developed a rare disorder involving blood clots and low blood platelets about two weeks after vaccination. One woman died and another was in critical condition. More than 6.8 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in the U.S., according to the CDC.

In a joint statement, the FDA and CDC said “a type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) was seen in combination with low levels of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia).” All six cases occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred six to 13 days after they received the shot."

6 out of 6.8 million. All women, 18-48.

I got the J&J shot last week, was sore at injection site for several days, and felt a little weak without feeling ill....

Corona is a blood clotting disorder, so not too surprised side effects from various vaccines would include blood clots, still, sad there's been loss of life..  if only our previous president warned us in a timely manner so we could starve this disease out of existence, vs the shit show going on right now.

A prediction;  the virus will come back with a vengeance next fall, attacking those unvaccinated republicans...   they may get the rapture they've always wanted, self fulfilling prophecy no doubt...

J&J put on hold in CA.

Fortunately, at least one of the vaccination sites that I have been working with were able to grab some Pfizer doses to replace their planned J&J's, scheduled for this Saturday, allowing some of my folks to start the vaccination process.

We're keeping an eye on my wife, who had the J&J 11 days ago.  So far, so good.
