Female vs female vs female

Forums:

rank you three top female guitar players or slingers

articulate why

ty

Courtney Barnett because she plays guitar and doesn't sing like Billie Eilish.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe-electric guitar pioneer

Bonnie Raitt-plays slide beautifully, has a great tone

Memphis Minnie-great female Blues guitarist from the pre-war years, when virtually no other women guitarists were playing

Honorable Mention:  Emily Remler- Jazz guitarist who was an outstanding improviser and had a beautiful touch

Rory Block:  master of acoustic Delta Blues guitar

Nita Strauss

As Alice Cooper's lead guitarist, she has to be 100% on each and every night, while maintaining that perfect balance of totaling shredding and blowing away the crowd while not overshadowing Alice (that's something Jimi Hendrix had trouble doing when he backed Little Richard).   And shred she can.   Alice does give her a segment every night when she gets to cut loose and show off.

Hash slingers...

I will only comment on those I've seen:

Bonnie Raitt - Just a badass on slide.

Nancy Wilson - besides being able to shred acoustic and electric on a catalog of songs I grew up with, she resembles someone near and dear to me.

Prince - No one played guitar as well in heels. Ever.

^ Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers liked to shred in female lingerie.

Shelley Doty (Jambay, Pele Juju) can make that guitar scream in pain.

Jennifer Batten is a bad ass (3 world tours w/ Michael Jackson, backed Jeff Beck, etc)

Orianthi Penny Panagaris (played with Carrie Underwood, Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton, etc)

And of course, legends like Maybelle Carter, Joni Mitchell, Rosetta Tharp, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, and Nancy Wilson...

Anais Mitchell of course.  She brings original creations.

I’ve seen this champion of an artist rise from the depths of Texan campfires to now starring in a broadway show.

See for yourself. People that don’t appreciate Anais are not to be trusted.

Annie Clark aka St Vincent can shred.

Of late -

Hedvig Mollestad

Marissa Paternoster (Screaming Females)

Kryssi Battalene (Mountain Movers)

Joan Armatrading was seriously badass on guitar on one tour, then barely picked up an electric on another.

Which made the latter a mite disappointing.

That skinny lady who played for Natalie Merchant was great, IMO.  Killer tone, and a great sense of when fewer notes say more.

Tal Winken stein/ton/field/(sp)....., Jeff Becks bass player.

and what Portland Ken posted.

Tina Weymouth

Beyonce is good.

Molly Tuttle.
