Shitty game from both sides, execution wise. Great outcome if a GSW fan.
Definitely should not lose the series with this team, but I hope they do. Hope bron bron wins the next 4 titles and hits the game winner in each of the closeout games so the whole MJ bron talk will be put to rest.
If bron bron was better than mj he wouldnt of gotten schooled last night. Mj had the mental edge that bron doesnt. Bron was throwing up to many bricks last night and passing the ball when everything was on the line. Mj wouldve went give me the ball and get out the way yo. Bron might not be better than curry.
Lot of basketball left to be played, Sorry. Statiscally, the team that wins the first game only wins the whole thing around 50% of the time. As for the conversation of mj vs Lebron... Not sure if Lebron will ever pass him in rings but he will in every other category. Lebron won a championship in Cleveland...... I'll leave it at that.
Maybe we can get a Steven A Smith, Reggie Miller and Marv Albert alternative booth together for you haters of the best and most experienced finals crew I bet you all would like that huh
you think hubie brown could have clamped down on Alonzo's leg like that in the heat of the moment like that? you think Chris Webber could seamlessly weave in Rihanna comments during the game? I don't think so
The turnovers are inexcusable, no doubt; but from a defensive perspective, GS presents an absolute fuckton of nightmare matchups, which were really obvious last night.
In transition, Curry and Thompson simply run down and fill the corners, which forces the defense to cover, leaving the inside wide open for Durant to drive in for an easy bucket. LeBron spoke to that after the game. That's a shitty problem to have, and it's going to be interesting to see how Lue attempts to deal with it.
Durant himself is a matchip nightmare. Those rotations where Love or Irving (why? Just...why?) were forced to defend him were painful to watch. Even LeBron struggled at times in that matchup.
It's also worth noting that GS was getting away with a lot of fuckery on the floor last night. Green's arm hold on LeBron struck me as especially egregious. Better officiating should clean a lot of that up; but given Cleveland's subpar shooting, offensive rebounding, and just generally getting owned in the paint, I think it's fair to say they have their work cut out for them, even if they solve the defensive issues in Game 2.
It's amazing what having Durant does in the fast break. They have to gaurd the three point threat but also need to cover Durants sensational drive to the basket. Seems like Cavs found something with the old school pick and roll. They need to slow it down and play better d. I expect a better showing for the Cavs in game 2. Isn't much of a surprise but Lebron is going to need a couple 50+ games to win this series.
>>>>Lebron is going to need a couple 50+ games to win this series.
Agreed. It's on LeBron and Kyrie Irving to carry the scoring load; but they also need Love to get sharp and start hitting that 3 point shot he's been having success with throughout the season. JR Smith actually being a factor would also be a plus.
I don't think the answer for Cleveland is trying to match the 56 GS put up in the paint last night; the answer is limiting Durant inside and bringing that guady number back down to earth. Stay on Curry, and just let Thompson take his shots outside. Dude is ice cold on offense. Let him clang up 3's all night, while containing (that's a relative term, obviously) Curry and Durant.
If I'm the Cav's, that's how I move into Game 2. I also think a case needs to be made for some old school hard fouls in the paint by Cleveland. Everybody knows the Warriors are soft as warm play-doh when it comes down to it. Couple of good hard fouls sends the right message and slows the game down a bit.
MJ was schooled plenty. Had plenty of shitty games and believe it or not was kind of a ball hog. Much like Westbrook, took a ton of shots to get his stats.
Bron bron's efficiency is much better!
Bron much better defender.
Bron better passer. Assist.
Bron better rebounder.
Bron all around as a player is better.
Ok, mj has the title count. Big deal. Not comparing bulls to heat/cavs. Just the two players.
Yeah, there was really no intensity last night on either side of the ball. Obviously, The Warriors did there part and were efficient but there was no yelling or pushing or people getting in anyone's faces. I don't think there is any doubt they need to disrupt Durant. Somebody has to pee in his cereal. Last night Lebron was out there shaking hands and shit. That's fine for the first game but they better get out there on Sunday and get their hands dirty.
Badger, going back to the game sevens that Lebron had been a part of and that game six angainst the Spurs when they overcame and won in seven games, Lebron earned his clutch stripes. He's yet to be in a position like Jordon wher he could end a finals with a single jump shot. Hard to tell.
And...yet another 2 full day layoff between games...
NBA is sucking all momentum out of every playoff series this year..(and last few years...when did they start taking 2-3 days off between non travel games???)
^ I agree, Jambone. Makes me lose interest. Should be one day rest. I know they're my just trying to milk the finals for every penny, but just play the damn game already.
Great first half but warriors outplayed the Cavs badly in the 3rd. Lebron hasn't looked right since Curry ran around him twice and then made that layup.
It will be interesting to see if the Cavs put up a fight in the 4th
Had the car radio on scan when I heard someone introduce Carlos Santana. Locked in the station and was surprised to hear him play The Star-Spangled Banner (I'm still getting used to sports on FM radio in this market).
And that was the extent of my interest in the Finals.
Def pretty boring to watch. It'd be nice to see a good game. Last year the Cavs were down 2-0 as well. I guess it depends on whether or not they feel like getting embarrassed on national tv for not at this point. Hopefully they can at least win game 3 and make the series interesting. Not gonna win many games when you let the opposition score 130+. They need to sit down and study some tape. Durant aside, they couldn't stop anyone defensively last night.
The 2016/2017 Warriors were the best offensive team (by a wide margin) and the second best defensive team (by a narrow margin) and they were able to accomplish all that even with KD missing 24 games, so studying tape isn't going to help the Cavs... the things that will turn this series around are key injuries or ejection[s], and/or Durant and Curry both going totally cold for the next week.
^Watching tape and correcting their mistakes will always help. I remember all the warriors fans were on their high horse last year around his time and then they got embarrassed by blowin a 3-1 lead. I guess they can try and blame it on green being out one game. Bottom line is, warriors would get creamed by some of the great teams back in the day. Showtime, the bulls, Karl Maloney jazz, Shaq and kobes lakers. David Robinson Spurs. It would be fun to watch. Really hope Lebron finds away and golden state crumbles or has to go buy another great player to win next year. Cavs toughened up last year. That's what hey need to do again. The warriors are soft aside from green. Cavs gotta body them up.
>>>soft aside from green. Cavs gotta body them up.
let me play devils advocate and say that Klay Thompson doesn't appear soft at all to me in spite of not being the biggest guy. I also would not call David West soft in the least. Their centers might not be Shaq but they are hardly small soft guys. And if you look down the ban h you'll see Matt Barnes. You might want to ask Derek Fischer if he thinks Barnes is soft.
As for players heaving up half court shots after being fouled at half court, I find much Moore fault with the player who is intentionally fouling a player at half court instead of properly defending them.
What I don't like about the offensive player when they fling up those shots when they get fouled at half court is that it looks ridiculous. They're grown men and they shouldn't be theatrically flailing about like that like some South American soccer player. It's undignified.
Its also the right play if you can get three free throws.
And im glad D Fish is ok I hear he had a rough ride the other night.
Charles Barkley knows where the real action is at:
"The playoffs in hockey have been amazing. I'm not breaking earth-shattering news, our NBA playoffs have not been very good," Barkley said. "There is nothing more nerve-wracking than Stanley Cup overtime hockey. It's the craziest thing you're ever going to see. I just love the sport."
>>Bottom line is, warriors would get creamed by some of the great teams back in the day
I doubt it. What happened last year was a lot of former players saying exactly that.....what's happening this year is a lot of former players saying this is one of the top teams in history. I think people want to belittle the W's for various reasons but they are showing they are that good. Game three will truly tell.
I will say imo the refs are really letting them play which has made it more interesting and kept some flow to the game. Curry got tossed to the ground after being bumped hard 5 seconds earlier and there was no call on either. I hope the reffing continues as it is a nice balance of drawing the line when it's obvious or intentional and letting them rough it out.
>>>pretend and flail shooting from half court...
I mostly agree with you but unfortunately Curry can hit that shot and has multiple times. I imagine the rules will change because of it but technically it's the right call based on the rules. Personally I hate the jumping into someone to draw the foul. They've tried to correct that one but it basically destroyed the game (energy and integrity)
>>>everyone leave fish alone and count his rings.
Just because you have rings, it doesn't mean you aren't a big Dbag.
Lebron looked whooped during the third quarter. While he played it off after the game he looked exhausted and it showed in the fourth when he started missing open jumpers. I appreciate the W's making him pay for his whining too. It's pathetic. 3 seconds of whining and he turns around to see the ball going in the hoop down the court. Gotta focus on the game, not on the calls.
Cavs played bad. They looked tired, yea. Got caught playing the warriors game. IMO, they are ruining the great game of basketball. They just run down the court and fire threes. Yes, they're great shooters but their playing style couldn't be any more boring to watch. Everybody talking about this is one the greatest teams vet assembled but they still haven't won anything. I just laugh at people who think they could beat the showtime lakers in a 7 game series. Get a grip man
>>.IMO, they are ruining the great game of basketball.
Not sure how that is. They play team ball more than anyone except the Spurs. They don't just fire threes, in game one they dominated the paint. And their defense is crazy to watch. I'm not convinced Cleveland is actually playing that poorly. They are moving the ball well but W's switch better.
>>>I'm not convinced Cleveland is actually playing that poorly.
Agreed. In game 2 James and Love both scored above their regular season averages, but Kyrie and the roll players have been held below their averages in both games... of course if they bust out collectively the games will be closer, but that will not be easy if the Warriors continue to play at their normal high defensive level.
>>>They are moving the ball well but W's switch better.
And not only do they switch effectively, they have the personnel to not end up in mis-matches when the do switch (unlike every other team the Cavs faced in the playoffs).
Another defensive stat people tend to overlook is that the Warriors were number one in defending against the 3 pointer (regular season), so even though the Cavs were better than the Warriors at shooting the 3, they did not face any teams in the playoffs that defend it like GS has.
So Cavs 3 point shooters (who have become used to shooting more open 3's) are now being challenged, and from what I've observed so far, they tend to pass rather than shoot a contested 3. I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt more contested 3's in the upcoming games just to try to keep pace with Warriors' offense.
^I think that would be the wrong idea. They have to play their game like they did the last three games of the finals last year. They can't win by trying to play the warriors game. If they do they won't win a game.
Personally, I just think that it's boring to watch a team just run down the court and hit threes a few steps away from half court. There used to be a great and institution of plays like the back door, the pick and roll, the midcourt screen, drive and dish(which won't ever go away), but the warriors just run up the court and shoot. Their defense hasn't been anything special at all. They just run the court and shoot threes. They're great shooters, yes. It's just boring to watch that kind of style of basketball, IMO. Many teams will try and copy it.
Anyone who really thinks Oakley would be allowed to lay someone out and remain in the league, or that Shaq would be allowed to elbow defenders in the face or camp out in the paint indefinitely is totally out of touch with the current NBA... it's just not the same game, so it's kind of silly to debate it.
That said, I would actually enjoy seeing Shaq in his prime try to play intoday's game against either the Cav's or Warriors smaller, faster, deadly outside shooting lineups... guarding a Lebron or a Durant out in space, or getting switched onto a Kyrie or a Steph would make for a never ending supply of Shaqtin a fool footage.lol
Then again, even in their primes, those guys were never in very good aerobic condition, so they'd be pretty useless after 5 or 6 minutes of constantly running the floor, attempting to play defense on top of trying to score, screen and pass... hell, even the great Lebron is getting totally winded keeping that type of pace.
"Their defense hasn't been anything special at all"
is this a blind man's koan / joke or something?
lol lol lol
look up the shooting percentage of the players Klay has been guarding ion the playoffs, and update your posts
re only 3 pointers" do assists, and drives to the basket count?
comparing eras and who would beat who is academic art best, just imaginations running wild... - the older big guys are a bit grumpy - go watch hockey
the teams don't make the rules, they just maximize their performances within them
and steph curry has by far the most hockey assists in the league , and forces the spacing that leads to OFFENSE, and possibly contributing more than Kevin : Streph >> Durant >> Lebron
Is an average of 98 points per game good defense in 2017?
What would really funny Is watching Shaq drive in the lane against Curry, Thomson and Green. It would be a college of dunks and them hanging on Shaqs shoulders and getting knocked to the ground without him having to throw any elbows. And Kobe would just dismantle their defense from inside the arch. Would really love to see that.
you really don't understand how the league has changed, do you? all three of those guys would easily be able to get in position to take the charge and Shaq would either end up benched with foul trouble, or ejected for multiple flagrants.
On the other hand players like Kobe, Duncan and MJ would all thrive in today's NBA, but of course they would all want to play for GS.
Id give anything to see an old Bulls Pistons battle break out in todays NBA....its a totally differant game...but, for some reason ppl always will ask how would so and so do in todays game...they were asking that about Oscar Robertson in the 80 s, Babe Ruth, Gordie Howe, Red Grange...
Theres a reason these talks usually took place at the local bar...
I think you're completely off about that, Moogly. Those guys wouldn't be getting in the lane because they would be fouling Shaq way more than he would be called for charges. Shaq had moves down low. That lakers team would cause all kinds of match ups problems that would drive Kerr crazy. If Lebron had an inside presence to go with him and Irving then this series would be 2-0 right now
you said 'drive the lane', which is not the same as 'moves down low', which for Shaq, were elbows and what are now 3 second violations more times than not...
anyways, done with this inane debate... what's not debatable is that the Warriors are playing better than any team right now, and if that continues, round three of what has been a pretty damn good Finals matchup over the past few years should go their way.
best get ready for the impending invasion of Curry clones... all the smaller sized kids at the local courts practice crossover dribbles and 3 pointers.
the game was actually invented in what is now known as Mexico... and at the end of the championships, one of the teams got sacrificed (can't remember whether it was the winners or losers).
come to think of it, that system would make for much better parity...
Gotta love Warriors fans. Counting their eggs before they've hatched (again). Comparing a Warriors team that's only won one championship to the greats. Comical stuff.
Out of the 3 Warriors fans participating in this thread (Joel, Ro and myself), not one has 'counted their eggs' or compared the Warriors to any of the great teams of the past.
that happened in game two, Turtle... Green had four quick fouls, but the Warriors replaced him first with Iggy and later with Durant, so there wasn't much if any drop off in overall team defense (and Green kept his shit together).
Well before James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891, the peoples of Mesoamerica had a very similar game where the point was to get a ball though a hoop. The games origins date back as far as one-thousand years before the common era.... The game is played with a rubber ball called an ulama and depending on the region can either be played like soccer were a ball must go into a ground goal or like basketball were the ball must go through a stone “hoop” mounted above the playing court.
>>>Is an average of 98 points per game good defense in 2017?
Points don't define defense success if the offense is lightning. To that point, as a huge ...huuuge even, Shaq fan, he would be obliterated by this team. They are too fast.
>> any team with a real center would stand a chance against gs.
Qualify real center. Are their any active real centers? I still say it wouldn't matter.
>>>part of my game plan would be to get green into foul trouble.
This guy is a hot mess. I'm tired of his shtick. He will get a technical in the next game. It is his destiny.
>>abolish the 3 pt. line.
I could see pushing it back. Curry has redefined it and others are following. But I wouldn't say get rid of it because what Reggie did to the knicks was too awesome.
i haven't watched an nba game since the sonics ended, so i have no idea what's going on these days, but can someone clarify something for me? i see these final scores of 130 to 100 and whatever that end in regulation and all i can think is that the defense must suck these days. i know gs is known for the 3's and that 3's are a bigger thing in general these days. but what is it? better scoring or lack of defense? the only time i used to see final scores like that in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's was from games that went to multiple overtimes.
Wait til the best "role" players start headin there next fews years to keep bench fresh and grab a ring, a la New England Pats, you ll start seeing vets w no rings, take a pay cut to go play out there....theyre gonna be good for awhile...theyll beat celtics or washington in finals next year...cleveland is gonna get some true competition in East next year..
But, they got a decade to go to match the Celtics run in the 60 s
His football team has just deserted their home despite a quality & loyal fan base.
His basketball team is terrible.
And I'm not sure he knows this, but Jerry West has interviewed with the Clippers for a similar but more powerful "advisor" position than he's had with the Warriors.
IMO Jerry West has had a very significant impact on the building of this current Warriors beast. His hands are all over this Warriors team, and if he goes to the Clippers he's bound to make them better too.
Watch a lil closer tonite...before the warriors take all those threes....watch how many picks they set up near top of key......maybe cleveland wins tonite, only if they play better D, but, even if they do, itll be there only win this year...
Wow! That was exciting (and I appreciated the final score)!
>>> It's the Irving's and the Curry's and the Green's and the Other Guys that blow my mind. <<< Yes.
GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS!
GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS!
GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS! GO WARRIORS!
Especially when we see it before us, and not just when we're waxing nostalgic.
Food for thought.
And I'm not talking basketball, which I'm on record as not knowing well; I'm talking sport - human effort - greatness... THAT I know about.
The Warriors are a great team.
Cleveland is good too.
This year, maybe just not good enough.
But then again, that's what I said last year.
But then last year they didn't have an extra ringer, added because they were a good enough organization to make it work (and because Curry is healthy this year).
From a Cavs fan I would like to congratulate the GSW and their fans on a great season!
Still one to go (I'm conceding this year's title like I did last year until they had the biggest CHOKE job in history....lol). Again????? I would love nothing more but I think stever would not be able to handle another melty.....Haha! Unfortunately not happening this year:(
Great team!
Not sure what's up with their cap space and signings but would love to meet up again next year.
That's if they can get past the SAS! Who by the way would have killed them this year if...well....you know....
Can't wait for the 82 game preseason to get over with so we can play some meaningful games. SMH!
Wow with 1:20 remaining and the Cavs up 4 I thought they might pull it out but they really shit the bed down the stretch.
Im guessing Lebron will eat shit for one more season in Cleveland before wrapping his career up in LA. Then the Bucks will commence their domination of the Eastern Conference.
>>> What are your thoughts on the Warriors' transition game tonight, Judit? <<<
Thoughts? I have no thoughts about it, Mark, except to say that I loved the fine play I saw much of the time. I'm not analytical. I didn't watch the whole game, just most of the second half. Those guys are good, and it's easy to agree with Lance's assessment of Irving. Who wouldn't?
What are your thoughts on the Warriors' transition game tonight, Mark?
I thought the Warriors looked unsurprisingly lethal in transition, but I do think the Cavs had more answers tonight defensively than they did in Game 1 or 2.
Did the Jefferson/Durant matchup surprise you tonight, Judit? Jefferson was the guy wearing the white jersey, and Durant was the guy wearing the blue jersey, FYI.
they have assembled probably the most talented team 1-15 (12?) i have seen. they are great, congrats.
lebron passed repeatedly to korver and jr in the clutch. which, would be scary if he had the kobe killer instinct and not defer when its on the line...
"Did the Jefferson/Durant matchup surprise you tonight, Judit? Jefferson was the guy wearing the white jersey, and Durant was the guy wearing the blue jersey, FYI." Are you always such a snide asshole? Or only when your team loses?
sonomajon, Mark likes to "school" people if he feels they're deficient in knowledge or style. This was an excellent example of his being condescending and snide. The only good thing I can say about it is, he does it equally to men and women zoners.
a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
I'm not on here enough to know the intricacies of or deficiencies of anyones psychological profile...But if that's the case St.Mark I would hope that this is your online persona and in your real life you actually have people that like you! Cavs gave all they had...do they wanna or can they give more? Probably not...
The only question it appears now is can the W's finish the sweep. If that, their only mark on the record would be the Spurs game they should have lost. With that said, I hope they pull it out. It will be interesting to see Cleveland scramble this summer and multiple teams try to put together super teams.
Damn. If the Cavs needed confidence then I think scoring 137 against the supposed best defense in the league should do that. Let's see if they can carry this over to game. If they go back to Cleveland at 3/2, well then we have ourselves a series.
There's a lot to unpack from that scrum in the 3rd.
That Cleveland fan sitting courtside was holding a pretty strong frame out there. I enjoyed the swag he exhibited while being escorted out of the arena. Good stuff.
>>>>but i will ask again....you all gs folks, other than lltd, were on board when it was b davis over the mavs? or the run tmc days?
Those days were better than the Adelman/Carlesimo years, that's for sure. I'll admit that I jumped ship around that time (or a little before) to see a young Jason Kidd play with the Cal Bears. Those games were fun.
I agree about scoring a lot of points, Mark. But I think the key is smacking the warriors around a bit and making them look soft. The Cavs were able to exploit their soft side last year, and he warriors went cold the last three games. If Lebron and co can get in their heads again then we could be in for a long ride. For the warriors it almost feels like they have to finish it in Game 5. Goin to Cleveland at 3-2 would have to be mentally exhausting for them.
Point being, hoop, they need to get more physical, and that aint gonna work on GS home court where they get most of the calls...game over, not on, game, set , match....
it was like an all star game and a playoff game had a kid. 49 points in a quarter, Lebron throwing himself alley-oops off the backboard, the refs not giving a shit - all it was missing was the awful 30 minute half time show.
>>you guys were cute when you won for the 1st time
Says the lakers fan. God forbid a team win twice in 40 years other than the lakers. Ball isn't going to save that team...better hope the lakers don't draft him. I'd take Jackson.
Refs were a mess that game. I think three w's had 2 fouls with a couple minutes remaining in the first. A lot of non calls and then some ticky tack fouls. Just be consistent.
To be fair...we are right where we were last year. I'm sure everyone is thinking about it. Monday will be a throw down.
Yes the cavs have started playing rougher, picking fights. Not sure how that will work on the away court.
Green is just a douche. His schtick is so old. Get a grip man.
Irving should do what he did last year to Curry. Make him look like a chump on defense and drain shots right his face all day. Curry was lost last year in the final three games. Cold as ice to boot.
Wow...6 mins left, gorgeous pass, nashville hits post...if it goes to OT in Stanley Cup, theres nothing better...let alone in a game 6 , where one goal can earn one team the Stanley Cup....
("WE" both will have something to worry about when Jerry West goes to the Clippers. DAMN that's got to be a burn for the Lakers Nation!)
I haven't been on the black screen much lately and I didn't see any of game 4 so I had no comments to make about that one, but about tonight I'd say any time a team is facing elimination the pressure in certain ways is obviously on them, but in other ways not so much.
I think there is a ton of pressure on the Warriors tonight to finish it right now. If they lose tonight the series will go completely crazy and the pressure will be crushing. How will they respond?
Not seeing the last game and not paying too much attention to all the media jabber after, did Cleveland figure something out against GS, or did they just shoot lights out along with the Warriors slacking on defense - a devastating combo but more of a one-off situation as opposed to some sort of strategic change.
It does seem that the Warriors defense has gotten softer as the series has gone on, and IMO that is what will win or lose tonight's game, and possibly the series for them, not whether Steph, Durrant and Klank score thousands of points or not. I say that if the Warriors play their best defense tonight there will be joy throughout the Bay Area this evening and for one night there will be a different reason for violence in the streets of Oakland.
And is there anyone who believes in the conspiracy theory that ABC and the league want the series to keep going so the refs are favoring the Cavs? I know a couple of Raiders fans who's life-blood is believing in conspiracies who completely believe that the refs clearly favored Cleveland in game 4.
As always I say meh to that. It makes no sense, the risk of being exposed totally outweighs whatever MORE MONEY can be made.
But then again, I have always been susceptible to giving too much credit to people in power.
Anyway, it should be an interesting and exciting game tonight. I have some friends who have been season ticket holders for many years who are beside themselves about tonight so I'm rooting for them as much as anything. I'll be watching from a glorious spot right on the coast in Half Moon Bay, and with any luck some whales will cruise by when I step outside during breaks in the game.
That's one you have right Mr. timpane. If the Warriors lose this series it won't be a bitter pill, it will be a bitter nuclear bomb.
And you know I'm just foolin' with you Turtle (although the 'we' bit is something to look to getting away from).
From what I can tell that Jerry West guy is the Obi-Wan of NBA basketball. He played on one of the greatest teams of all time and if I'm not mistaken was the central figure in building two amazing dynasties in LA, then is right in the middle of putting together this Warriors team.
From all reports it was West who stopped the Klay Thompson for Kevin Love trade that was about to be made, who was the deciding factor in a number of excellent draft choices & free agent buys, and was the difference maker in Durrant coming to the BA.
Dude knows his basketball.
So I'm off for the coast now, but you dead heads remember one thing while watching tonight's game; it's being played in the same building where so many great Grateful Dead shows happened, as well as so many other great shows going all the way back to the Rolling Stones in '69, the same building where so many of you had lifetime memories made.
The insides may be different, but the walls & ceiling are the same, imbued with so much great history. It's a good old hall, personally I've had uncountable good times there and I'm hoping for another great moment for the place tonight.
Golden State had sure better finish this tonite...omg..the pressure theyll be under if they lose this...back to cleve..???.......this really CANT happen , right?
Oh, wait, im a Sox fan....anything is possible....
Congrats to Warriors coach Mike Brown for managing to simultaneously collect a fat paycheck from both of these teams and for being able to help crush the team that treated him so shabby twice.
My high school years were spent in Louisville KY. Thirteen years in Chicago during the Bulls Hey day. Basketball has been big in my life. Sixteen years in the East Bay and this one tonight feels as great as any of them. That's a great Warriors team and I hope they win it again next year!
They could have been real special had they finished last year and not choked a 3-1 lead (never before happened) in the finals. Considering they held the best single season win record.
Or sacked up and taken the Cavs out in game 4 to go undefeated in the playoffs. But they threw that away. Where was their killer D that history setting game? Oh yeah, nowhere because it's not all that!
Congrats to the fans of the GSW.
Jeannine....Celtics are seriously two players away before truly making a run. Give 3 years and they'll be a very solid team who should compete every year for the East. Going to be fun!
It was exhilarating to watch the game at a small theater (the Parkway) in Oakland with somewhere between 100-200 Warrior fans. I've never been to an NBA game, but this was that energy on a small scale. Knowledgeable diehard fans, all vocal, sometimes joining in the chants in the Arena as heard on TV on the movie screen. Big noise, great appreciation, huge fun.
im a douche because Lebron left Cleveland voluntarily went to a better team? Lol
sorry for pointing out facts and history "hooper" and hopefully your loss last night will help you grow up. just wait until my bucks start kicking your Cavs' ass, then you'll think I'm a cunt or something.
I'm happy for Durant. Yes, it's pretty lame that the nba had turned into this kind of league where you
can just buy the best player and win a championship, but Durant NEVER ever would have won in Oklahoma. That aside, these finals were just boring. Pretty much no complete defensive games from either team, just a run around and shoot. One close game and the rest were easily decided. GS played team ball last night. Good for them. The Cavs played very
badly the first half and the hole was too deep. Lot of questions for them coming into the 2018 season. They have to get
rid of their baggage (Smith, Jefferson, Williams, Korver, Love) if they even want to get bavk
to the finals next year. If they want to beat the warriors in the finals again they are going to have to
buy one of the best players in the league like harden or Westbrook. Worked for GS.
Considering the celtics have the first pick, (and a potential lottery AGAIN next year via brooklyn) , plus #37, and. # 52...trader Danny could make a move...i dont think itll be three years...but, either way, yes, it will be fun
You truly are an idiot. What was Cleveland's record when he left Cleveland after '10 season? That's right 61-21!!!! Miami's? Barely over .500, if that.
Wasn't going to a better team like KD, 73 win history setting team. But OK!
It's amazing the stupid that's on this board!
FACTS buddy FACTS!
Bucks need a few years to grow together. They are a fun bunch to watch that's for sure.
No need to engage with me anymore Bucky. You had your chance.
If anything, I see a team like San Antonio re-loading and giving GS all they can handle. If the league is smart, they will schedule more than 3 games between GS and SA next year... that's another rivalry in the making.
Anyways, I'm totally hooked on this style of basketball and am looking forward to watching the copycat league try to adjust.
Not sure what you mean by a copycat league. Teams trying to get better through free agency?
Me being a huge Cavs fan that's why I find the GSW so refreshing. The fact the core was acquired through the draft. Great move on their part getting KD. Makes them a hell of a team. The Cavs have to make a move or two no doubt but think they have enough there that it doesn't need to be too drastic. Cavs choked away game 3 late. Game 5 was fairly close. Ultimately the GSW would have won no matter what happened in game 3. Just not sure Cleveland needs to drastically change. Imo.
Celts are about to trade #1 to philly....celts will get their pick at 3...(and take either small fwrd jackson from kansas, or kid from duke)...and another first rounder next year...(where they already sit on two first rounders..theirs, and yet one more from brooklyn...lol)
Boston is in my blood, Turtle...thanks for noticing...
Lived there, schooled there a bit, afterwards spent a cpl summers there....from Ct but lived on Cape Cod for years as well....so, ya...boston goes back generations in my family....
Somehow i still manage to hate the Pats, and have a strong dislike, yet respect, for the bruins...its just Sox and Celtics for me...
On the other hand...it makes no sense you even like hoop at all...

The turnovers are inexcusable

Couple of good hard fouls sends the right message and slows the game down a bit.

let me play devils advocate and say that Klay Thompson doesn't appear soft at all to me in spite of not being the biggest guy.

Not sure how that is. They play team ball more than anyone except the Spurs. They don't just fire threes, in game one they dominated the paint. And their defense is crazy to watch. I'm not convinced Cleveland is actually playing that poorly. They are moving the ball well but W's switch better.

>>>I'm not convinced

Anyone who really thinks
Anyone who really thinks Oakley would be allowed to lay someone out and remain in the league, or that Shaq would be allowed to elbow defenders in the face or camp out in the paint indefinitely is totally out of touch with the current NBA... it's just not the same game, so it's kind of silly to debate it.
That said, I would actually enjoy seeing Shaq in his prime try to play in today's game against either the Cav's or Warriors smaller, faster, deadly outside shooting lineups... guarding a Lebron or a Durant out in space, or getting switched onto a Kyrie or a Steph would make for a never ending supply of Shaqtin a fool footage.lol

I agree about scoring a lot
I agree about scoring a lot of points, Mark. But I think the key is smacking the warriors around a bit and making them look soft. The Cavs were able to exploit their soft side last year, and he warriors went cold the last three games. If Lebron and co can get in their heads again then we could be in for a long ride. For the warriors it almost feels like they have to finish it in Game 5. Goin to Cleveland at 3-2 would have to be mentally exhausting for them.

Turtle's very bitter.
Turtle is very bitter.
And he says 'we'.
Sad.
On it goes, and...
Go Warriors!

Go Oakland Coliseum!
Carry on.

They do have a great team. No
They do have a great team. No doubt about it.

It was exhilarating to watch
It was exhilarating to watch the game at a small theater (the Parkway) in Oakland with somewhere between 100-200 Warrior fans. I've never been to an NBA game, but this was that energy on a small scale. Knowledgeable diehard fans, all vocal, sometimes joining in the chants in the Arena as heard on TV on the movie screen. Big noise, great appreciation, huge fun.

2 out of 3 ain't bad for a
2 out of 3 ain't bad for a team that was nowhere 4 years ago.
and all three series could have gone differently... both teams were affected by injuries the years they lost.
but this year, everyone was healthy and Durant playing within the Warrior's system made the Warriors the better of the 2 teams.
who knows what will happen next year, but I hope these 2 teams can stay great and the rivalry can grow.
I don't see Cleveland 'buying' a superstar/championship... they already have the highest payroll and the highest paid player: http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/
Is it October yet??
GO WARRIORS!!

Not October yet, I wish.
Imo.
Go Cavs!!!!!!!

Nice job Warriors. They took care of business, which isn't so easy when EVERYONE expects nothing less.
I sure hope Kerr ends up OK. He's about as classy an act as can be found in or out of sports. He deserves to be OK.
