Fire at the Akebono

Saw that first thing this morning.

very sad news..,

it looked like the historic front was saved, so maybe they can rebuild it, I'm not sure.

sounds like the Mexican restaurant, pawn shop and kava bar all burned too.

Very sad.

bummer! we'll be in Pahoa town in one week... saw a smokin' (too soon?) DNB shoe there and was planning to pop in for a minute and maybe take a pic or two.  oh well...

bummer

the Akebono Theater -- and downtown Pahoa -- escaped the lava-flow threat in 2014... now this

lots of GREAT memories of DNB shows in that venue... the boys always seemed to step it up a notch or two in that venerable old hall... ventilation was terrible and the music was HOT

DNB played there every Hawaii tour from 2007 thru 2016, and I was there for all but the first year

RIP Akebono sad

makes ya wonder how many other old places like that (where a lot of us routinely see music) are fire hazards...

From what I hear the fire started in the pawn shop behind the akebono

Nothing lasts...

Wow. Just horrible. One of my all time favorite venues. Still smiling from our last show there. Rob Baraco in for Mookie and both John Molo and Wally Ingram on drums. One of the best DNB shows ever.

Will miss this place a lot.

Bummer. broken heart

RIP you will be missed.

Poor Pahoa town... seriously a bummer. Love old town. Maybe theyll rebuild...

Zooey, thx for posting that drone footage...

heartbreaking to see the ol' place in ruins

if they do rebuild, looks like it'll have to be from the ground up...

nothing lasts, indeed

sad
