Fire On The Mountain

Livestream and the volcano in Iceland is rather active right now. https://youtu.be/O46nVKTdpBc

Damn. That feed is excellent and the volcano is giving a real show.

Why is Iceland called Iceland and Greenland called Greenland. It's really the opposite of reality.

Vikings embraced drink and brain damage?

Not a lot of greenery in Iceland - mostly rock,

I took Iceland Air from JFK to Luxembourg City via Iceland(not going to try and spell the city) for the German part of the 90 Dead tour. Ain't a cheap place to visit for obvious reasons. My 2 brothers worked in Greenland like 40 years ago. I think 1980.

And Surf looks like lots of greenery in Iceland. Looks similar to Scotland. Google it.

But if greenery you mean by tree's then your right.

Land above 700 m above sea level is mostly non-vegetated... It is estimated that 60% of Iceland was vegetated at the time of its settlement, a figure that now stands at around 25%  Iceland is a famously beautiful place, yet forests only cover about 2 percent of its land area, and they tend to be relatively small.

- from Wiki

I went to Iceland about 5 years ago primarily for their big annual music festival, Airwaves. Interesting music but not a lick of hippy music. No traditional funk, blues, or world music, either. Even the reggae band had synthesizes and harps.

I loved the place and plan to go back sometime, as we really had to cram in the sightseeing. We did visit a geyser field, but didn't see any active volcanoes.

What's in a name?

Greenland: translating Old Norse Groenland, so named by its discoverer (986 C.E.) because "it would induce settlers to go there, if the land had a good name":

Hann gaf nafn landinu ok kallaði Groenland, ok kvað menn þat myndu fysa þangat farar, at landit ætti nafn gott. [Islendingabok, 1122-1133]

Wow. love these shots, thanks

It does look amazing at night.

FYI, I've had a few of the streaming links go bad, but if you go to Iceland volcano, there's usually a new live streaming feed to see. The drone ones are kinda cool, too.

Some amazing drone footage of the eruption from last Wednesday:
