First movie you ever saw in the theater

Forums:

Mr mom

Make me a grilled cheese.

Either Oliver Twist or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Mary Poppins

Return of the Jedi

I saw Ben-Hur at a drive-in around '59-'60. Does that count?

does a drive-in count?

Snow White maybe?

Theater was maybe Radio City, a movie about a bluebird

Not sure exactly which one, but these come to mind as some of the earliest ...

Shaggy DA

Bugsy Malone

Star Wars

Absolutely no idea.  I remember that running up and down the aisles was more interesting until I got busted by some Vincent Price lookin' usher.

But that might not have been my first.

the first one i remember is 'Charlottes Web' @ Radio City circa '72 - second grade

Animal House. I think it was a double feature but I dont recall the other movie, i do remember we won a pair of hand knitted socks with different colored toes at the raffle...

Can't remember, but we didn't see any movies when we lived in Hong Kong 67 / 68, but I do remember seeing 2001 when we got back in late 68, so that's my guess.   (Might have been a disney movie before that)

Mary Poppins or Sound of Music.

Jaws... drive in.

The Music Man

The Deep....I was scared shitless as a young'en too!

However, I have always loved the water, snorkeling, and scuba diving, etc.

How the west was one on a big wrap around screen

The first one I remember is Around the World in 80 Days in 1956

If the Drive In doesn't count it would have to have been Old Yeller

Wow: nearly impossible to recall!

As a kid we went to the Branford drive in every Friday night for a new Disney movie.... that darn cat, witch mountain, herbie, flubber, bedknobs and broomsticks, too many to count

The first movie that impacted me forever was star wars. It utterly consumed me. Lol

Alex's was also star wars !

Shaggy dog>>shaggy D.A. !!!!!

I love so much how many of us have more memories of a drive-in as our 1st experience

Old yeller

Who can remember that shit. I could never possible recall that. I might have been 1 year old when I saw a movie in a theater. And what a bullshit stoner thread.

I remember going to see The Sound of Music with my mother in 1965. For some reason I remember holding her hand standing in line to get in.

I remember seeing lot's of movies. BUT MY FIRST! ?

Fantasia at age 3, ca. 1954.

Tripped me out so much that I never recovered.

smiley

Fantasia.

I probably saw that many times as our next door neighbor worked for Disney Studios and watched many a Disney movie when he would bring home reels of the classics to his home in Canoga Park in the early 70's. We would watch all the great Disney movies for free on a screen in his yard.

The Lords of Flatbush, at the drive in. There may have been others before, but that's my first memory.

I'm pretty sure it was Mary Poppins, but it might have been The Sound of Music. Julie Andrews either way.

Probably something Disney.

Some kind of Peter Rabbit Movie early 70's maybe it was released late 60's,, all I remember is it was Easter eggs and psychedelic

Help me somebody ,

Maybe "West Side Story"?   I think I saw "Son of Flubber" at a drive-in.

Some movies I recall from my early years:

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The Hot Rock

Pink Panther movies

The Poseidon Adventure

James Bond movies

Tommy.

My parents were fighting and wanted some time alone so my mom dropped off my older brother and I at the theater and he picked Tommy for us to see.

I was not yet a teenager. Oof.

I believe my first movie on an indoor theater was Rocky.

Regarding Jaws... Fantastic Planet was shown first, it was more frightening than Jaws

Escape to Witch Mountain is another possibility

probably Bambi

James Bond, Thunderball, Drive in

The first movie I remember seeing was The Amityville Horror.   It was at the drive in theater.  We went in a large Ford LTD station wagon.  My parents drove. Four of my older siblings hid on the floor under blankets and my sister and myself sat on top of them.  We were free because of age.  My parents only had to pay for themselves.  When we parked, all the kids emerged from hiding. It was like a clown car exodus.  The thing I remember the most was being allowed to set up lawn chairs on the roof!  I absolutely loved it.   I'm sure there were other first films, but this one is the memory stand out.  If I remember correctly, it was a double feature with The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane. I fell asleep for that one.....

Sound of Music at some big theater in Montclair NJ

I dunno, probably some disney thing?

but the 1st real movie that i remember making an impression was the release of Star Wars. My dad took me to see it at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Was just after it was released. mind blown.

 Poseidon Adventure

First time I tripped in a theater was The Exorcist. It had an intermission before the exorcism.  We didn't talk much at the intermission or after the movie,, till the next day.

King Kong (1976).

The scene at the end where he gets shot and bloodied to hell kinda freaked me out as a kid. (Oops, spoiler, lol)

<<First time I tripped in a theater

Thats a curious thought, I know we ate mushrooms when seeing Pink Floyds "The Wall", that was, um, fun, lol

(seems like should have done that before, can't remember)

Maybe the Jungle Book,  Planet of the Apes, one of the lame Three Stooges movies, the Batman movie w/Adam West & Burt Ward?

The first inside theater movie I remember is Towering Inferno.

Disney's animated 'Robin Hood'.  Early 70s, Spreckles Theater, downtown San Diego.

This and 'Bed Knobs and Broomsticks' are my favorite disney movies.

Trail I love that story so much

Sweet sweet thread

I was 15 and fully sober seeing the wall the first time lol

Don't know if I've ever been dosed for a theater movie /:

First movie ? Riiiiiiiiiigh

First Movie my parents didn't take me to > Easy Rider

< dosed for a theater movie

Return Of The Jedi

Incredible sound and vision, all the movie's lessons hit me hard. Good, evil, God, family bonds, appreciation of nature and wildlife, love your enemies,,, an absolutely perfect trip

A James Bond film. Maybe "Dr. No," but probably "From Russia with Love."

@ the U.C. Theater in Berkeley with my dad. My mom had a job at the candy counter. I think we saw the film for free.

I'm pretty sure it was Bambi

When I was just 3 and a half years old, my dad took me to see One Million Years BC.  I'm pretty sure he told my mom he was taking me to the park or something and seeing a Raquel Welch movie.  I remember the dinosaurs and that it was scary.

I am not sure if it was my first movie in a theater, but it’s my first memory , Young Frankenstein in Cedarhurst Central Movie Theater in Cedarhurst, NY (now a shopping mall) .  I was with my mom and remember the two of us laughing so hard, especially the scene when Igor (Marty Feldman) meets Gene Wilder at the train.  I almost peed in my pants.   Great Memory.

I had friends who did that for Blair Witch Project. It was the late show and before the movie ended Berkeley had a black out and they had to find their way home to Oakland on foot.
