Join Phil and his friends, as they seek to bring the light of music to this
Dead of Winter.
For five nights starting on Tuesday, January 10th and concluding on Saturday, January 14th Phil will perform a free late set in the bar with his musical friends.
Join us as we seek to warm ourselves with friends, family and music.

I wonder if he'll end up playing with the previously scheduled bar show artists (Mark Karan, Jason Crosby, Greg Loiacono, Lebo, etc)

BTW: Last night's bar show with Reed Mathis, Jay Lane, and Clay Welsh was INCREDIBLE.  Current front-runner for show of the year.  laugh

This is some good news!

Thanks for sharing this with the group, Johnny D.

Well this should curb the ticket price complaining, on to bitching and moaning about the lineup.

Have fun folks.

Dead of Winter has me thinking about the Dead Winter Carpenters - who are opening at the Fillmore for  LOS this Sat evening.

Will they be joining  the fun at TXR after their set? Either way, it's going to be a time!

Late night sets start at 9:00pm.  Ha-ha, love it just my speed.

Strange start time!

You will need a canoe to get there! This morning 3 main arteries out of town were under water and it's still dumping and howling- is this a Pineapple Express?!

Hope you guys aren't under water, Jamjuice!

We braved the rain Sunday to see Stu Allen honor David Bowle's Birthday- solid.

They now have Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin on tap at $8, with tip, $9. Ouch.

However, the shows are free- guess it all evens out in the wash!

See you Saturday for Sless showheart

I remember Barraco telling me his girlfriends name is Katie-is she the singer of that band?

Stay buoyant, folks!

Wow, super sweet of Phil

I would be at every night, so generous and giving

have fun folks

Drop us some streamies

solid night 2, 3 more to go.  Phil leaving it all on the field!

I think that's from last night.

I question the need for 3 guitarists.
(Constantly)

Not a big Ross fan but I did like some of his playing in that vid. The kid is growing on me the more I see him.

Very nice to see Mark Karan back in the TxR mix. I think he's a fine player who isn't a "Jerry Stylist" but has the sensibilities to play GD music well, which is pretty rare for straight rocking guitar players IMO.

Hopefully Phil will tap in to him more this year.

So when did they actually start & end?

The Phil sets ~ 9:15ish to 11:20ish with shortish break.

GTTBS big guy.

Some of Karans best chops are when he is trying to sound like Jerry...

>>>Some of Karans best chops are when he is trying to sound like Jerry<<<

Nothing wrong with that.

I like straight up Jerry stylists (Fake Jerry's) too, as long as they're good at it.

My power is out again, house is freezing!

would rather be at TXR... anyone heading down?!

Im in my PJ's, but, who cares!

Thinking of heading down.

Considering im in NYC, uh ok the stream sounds good.

Roshambo in PJ's?

smiley

Hey there!

You know how fun it is to sit on the stairs and watch the man do his thing!

No frills PJ's tonight-its freaking cold!

Hope you are well- Happy 2017!

Friend went to see Ezra last night in Cotati

I'm good.  Hope that all is well with U.

Waiting 4 Ezra 2 play @ TXR.

Would B a nice reason 2 visit the left cost.

Definitely lmk if you are flying out- nonstop SFO to NYC are ridiculously cheap now

just do it!

Im getting the hell out of dodge, cold, rain, ice, fallen trees, flooding

And heading to Maui ina few days. Holladevil

Listening to a live video of the show, via Holly Bowling on facebook:

Looks like Phil, Jay Lane, Ross James, Lebo, and someone playing a white Strat-type guitar (head outside of the frame).  TLEO...now Angel from Montgomery with a female vocalist, whom I'm not familiar with.

A la John Prine?

So...

Who is going to the Sless show tonight with the Phil sandwich in the middle?

Tried to make a 6:30 dinner reservation, but they are booked

Sol Food?

I'll see you at the show!

Great looking day for music at TXR! Lots of great folks will be there, and wow, the variety of musicians. As often, wish I were there.

Me, too! Have fun, kids heart

....and don't forget to buckle up.

I was there last night and it was all pretty damn cool.

The Grate Room had Tim Bluhm & Jason Crosby playing a quiet sit-down acoustic show. Phil sat in for a few with them in the first set, along with Greg Loiacono, before both of those guys started their set in the bar.

Crosby & Bluhm were excellent. The Grate Room is perfect for pin-drop quiet acoustic or jazz shows and once again it sounded excellent in there. They had a baby grand piano on stage for Crosby, the first time I can remember seeing an actual piano in there, and that really sounded fine in that room. Bluhm has such an easy and clean voice, and the songs they played with Crosby on violin really were the best.

Their show ended right about when Phil, Loiacono, Lebo, Scott Guberman & Alex Koford took a set break in the bar, and when they started up again Crosby & Bluhm joined them for a few, including one ripper that started out like Cumberland Blues but was a different upbeat country song that just smoked.

I was in & out enjoying the beautiful night but I heard some other good ones including Dear Mr. Fantasy, Bird Song, The Other One, and Casey Jones to wrap it up around midnight.

I have to say that once again I thought Lebo was just great. He really knows how to fit in with other players and his unique style really works with Phil. I was not impressed the couple of times I saw his group ALO years ago, but he's really grown on me playing with Phil.

The bar shows are always more of a loose jam that an organized show, but with people roaming all around dancing and having a great time and musicians coming & going on stage it was a real good late night party.

Overall it was another great night at Terrapin Crossroads, with a super quiet, very intimate acoustic show in one room and a rockin' party in the other.

Phil is having a great retirement.

We shall miss you guysheart

few more hours of work, listening to David Bowie full volume

Hoping for another live stream from the bar.

Wish I could lend ya a spaceship

listening to the free bar show right now (without Phil, so far)...

http://mixlr.com/happycat/

... but I'd much rather be listening to a stream of the music in the Grate Room, which is probably just getting underway (Sless-Sears-Molo-Barraco-Skene)

I'm looking for other ones, but without success. Thanks for listing the stream you've got. Phil won't join them til after 9, I think.

bar show on break now

supposedly another streamer, in the front row and almost ready to go, at the TXR free bar show w/ Phil

Seems like less and less about Phil playing music on here than in the past, maybe cuz he's playing more and more.  Anyway, after 5 night run - Phil came back for GD night in the bar - gratis.  This terrapin family band thing has hit a new level - Some great shots of Phil's picking and fret work on this clip.  What a joy to watch him play these songs up close.  enjoy (if anyone on here still into this sort of thing :)..

Thanks for sharing the good stuff, Bret et al.

I'm looking forward to the next time I visit TXR - always a Grate Time!

And there's more Phil for Free Tonight!

“Dead of Winter” set w/ Phil Lesh: ft. Stu Allen, Ross James, Cmac, Scott Guberman and Danny Luehring

I may have to sneak out for this one...

Awesome!  Thanks for sharing the links.

These shows look like grate fun!!!

I'd say there's less talk here about Phil playing as in the past is because Phil isn't touring the country anymore, so it's just a very small handful of us going to the shows, and also because many of the shows he is playing are low-key events, especially the bar shows.

Just as in the past they're still very often good to great shows, but not with BIG NAMES to get peoples' attention and not personally involving most of the black screen crew, so most of what we do see here now are the same few who bitch about things they don't know anything about and can't participate in, and the same few who actually do get to see the shows and do still comment.

The easties have the Cap shows and those still get lots of zone play for better & worse (same as it ever was) but anyone not located in the BA or on the eastern seaboard really have nothing to talk about nowadays.

I am one of many who while loving TxR and what happens there still wish Phil would put together a group and do a run once or twice a year at the Warfield like he does at the Capitol, just to get the juices flowing on a larger scale around here and give more people a chance to see him and see that he's still ripping it up at a high level.

But then I think Shapiro & his people probably do almost all the work organizing those Cap runs, and it is a lot of work. Phil IS retired after all, and he seems perfectly content to jam it out in his personal venue whenever he feels like it, without all the big show hassles.

And especially because so much of what happens at TxR is really good, if Phil is content then I am content with Phil.

And you know that I'll keep talking about it!

A Bay Area tour would be awesome. Maybe 5 nights spread out covering north south east and two city shows.

Five free nights turned into ten free nights, but who's counting.
