Seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Now we're canceling shows? Florida is way down the list at this point and falling every day. It's the 33rd highest state in covid rates as of this morning. Seems a like a weird decision with no rhyme or reason. North Carolina is 15th and rising and they aren't canceling it? Curious decisions.
The whole state reminds me of a green watered untreated swimming pool and spa. Unhealthy and dangerous to keep going into yet the people of the state keep on swimming through the algae
Didn't DeSantis ban COVID tests as a requirement for anything? I can't keep up with stupid Florida politics...
Yep, and heavily fine those who decide to require vaccinations and/or proof of recent negative tests. Some businesses have gone to court and won against the state, for now at least...more appeals ongoing, but that costs money to do. Cheaper and easier just to cancel the events. I wish a lot more performers bypass Florida and any other states that are fighting covid related mandates. What I wish and what happens, depending on how badly some performers need the money, probably isn't going to come true.
No mention of covid in the official band statement, it's routing and logistics man. Why BS us ? Why not release a true statement ?
Dead + Company have canceled the first two shows of their upcoming fall tour. Dates in the Florida cities of West Palm Beach on October 6 and Tampa on October 7 have been axed “due to routing and production logistics” according to a note from the sextet.
The band featuring Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann along with John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge will now begin the excursion at Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion on October 11. Dead & Company’s West Palm Beach play was supposed to take place at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, while the Tampa performance was slated for MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre at the FL State Fairgrounds.
“Dead & Company is looking forward to performing in West Palm Beach and Tampa in the future,” reads part of the message sent by the band’s representative. Refunds will be processed automatically via the point of purchase. Both shows were sold out.
But if I was as big and powerful as the Dead machine I would have taken the opportunity to tell it like it is and piss on the governor outright,, not beat around a bush
DeadCo didn’t say publicly that they canceled FL because of Covid, because they wanted to avoid a mud slinging contest with the governor in case they want to reschedule.
But COME ON. Of course it’s Covid. The shows were sold out, everything was set, but then this state executive order from the governor went into effect penalizing mask and vaccinate mandates, with fines.
Fuck that shit, and fuck that governor. DeadCo did the right thing, because I’ll tell you something: Even vaccinated people are getting messed up with this Delta variant. The less mass crowds, the better, especially in a state that doesn’t want any safeguards.
