Of the Founding Fathers, who would adapt best to the "modern world" on the whole?

Forums:

Ben Franklin runs away with it IMO; however, I can't help but wonder how the GOP would go about marginalizing him?

the ones without slaves

>>>the ones without slaves

Well, that would rule out Thomas Jefferson, who otherwise was the quintessential Renaissance man.

But yeah, Franklin was the man and well ahead of his time.  He also freed all his slaves by 1770 and became a abolitionist.

Cool thread about the old white dudes.

Duuhhhh...

"George Washington"  aka Adam Weishaupft would adapt the best,  having been King o' the Bavarian Illuminati and promoting the New World Odor.

Also he was 'The First President',  but 'John Hancock' has his signature on every cheque,  so go back to the books  laugh

I swear most of you people slept through History Class back in grade school.

None. They'd all be taken down by unsolicited dick pics

Mr. Hounder was obviously out puffing Thin Havana during History Class.  "Dick's Picks" series did not start until after the advent of the modern CD player,  several decades after the 'Founding Fathers' era.

So we're talking 'Early 1990's' vs.  'back before color TV'.

That's almost a 200 - year difference.

I bet Stu has a husky dick pic.

Ben Franklin wouldn't survive the current #metoo/ drinking scrutiny.

Thomas Payne....Ben Franklin....no doubters

Yeah, Jefferson was definitely somewhat of a da Vinci and was well "ahead of his time" in many respects ... including the desire to abolish slavery, yet he owned them.  While he was on board with many early abolition efforts, he was steadfastly opposed to integration.   If he were transported to the present, I'm not sure if he'd allow reason to guide his outlook and admit that he was wrong ... or if his internal cognitive dissonance would hold steady and he'd cling to his old beliefs?  If it's the latter, he'd likely resemble and acid casualty of sorts.

Franklin, on the other hand, seemed like he could roll with just about anything that's thrown his way.   While I have no doubt he was a womanizer, he doesn't strike me as someone who'd "cross the line" ... on the other hand, maybe Hamilton.

Hamilton, of course. We're living his plan.

>>>he was steadfastly opposed to integration.

I hear old TJ had his own sort of "integration" going.

>>>>>He also freed all his slaves by 1770

Simply not true.

Jefferson died in debt.  He may have wanted to free his slaves, but never did so, nor did he provide for that in his will.  Even his mistress and the mother of some of his children, Sally Hemmings, was still a slave at the time of his death.  She was given her freedom by Jefferson's sister, after his death.

That said, I see Jefferson as the most equipped to adapt to modern times.

Dave, I think he was talking about Ben Franklin freeing his slaves and becoming an abolitionist.  Not Jefferson.

>>>>>He also freed all his slaves by 1770

That was Franklin, not TJ.

Ah, gotcha Ken.  My bad.

As far as Washington sending dick pics, it is believed that he was impotent.

Not a Founding Father, but I'm throwing Abby Adams into the mix.  She was a bad-ass early feminist and pro-education for boys and girls.

“If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.”    -Abigail Adams

Paul Revere made a nice transition into a Portland, Oregon Garage Rock act.

I'm thinking Sam Adams.

I like beer.

Ha!

Skeletal remains of 12 yr old boys were found in the back of Ben franklins basement

>>>he was steadfastly opposed to integration.

I hear old TJ had his own sort of "integration" going<<<

I tend to believe the two notions were closely related; although believe they are complex psychological issues that are difficult to nail down in "one breath".

Aside from Franklin, it's possible that Abigail and John might have been best equipped to contend with the "transgressions" of modern day society ... in that they were puritanical to begin with & might simply point to current day society as proof of their original outlook.  However, I could see them isolating themselves nonetheless.
