Frank Zapa Hologram tour

Forums:

is on. I have no opinion on this yet it seems strange.

No link.

I have an opinion, but I'm keeping it to myself.

Tickets go on sale fri. Playing red bank and Collingwood in jersey

No sure what to think, but some damn fine musicians participating

just an fyi, any zoners who think it is a good idea to attend these shows will be permanently banned from the uber innie club. this is coming from up on high people. you wont be warned again.

Ban me now,

The touring unit boasts guitarists Ray White and Mike Keneally, bassist Scott Thunes, multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin, percussionist Ed Mann, and drummer and Zappa archivist Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers.

That's a solid band

It's just a show, and mostly live, but it's such a weird concept.

I once went to a deal with Elvis Presley's live band, including the great James Burton & Ron Tutt, playing along with a big-screen video of Elvis from live shows.

It was OK and wasn't really that weird but ultimately not quite as good as I was hoping, but a hologram is a different deal, although I'm not sure why.

Somehow a video just doesn't seem as strange as a hologram.

I guess it's good that I'm just not that big a Zappa fan to be really drawn to this, so skipping it if/when it comes around will be easy.

But if I got a free or cheap ticket I'd still likely go out of curiosity.

Because if you don't go you just don't know.

FRANK!

Now a Cliff Burton Elvis Presley hologram would get me to the show.

I, like lumber truck, will b powerless to resist attending one of these when it hits the west coast.

i won't b proud of it, but the only the mike Keneally affiliated group I actively boycott is joe satriani.

if u think I'm gonna miss an opportunity to see him, travers and thunes dig into the catalog just cause of an unnecessary and tasteless hologram, U trippin.

Ahmet fucking Sucks !!!

Gail fucking Sucked !!!

That being said, I'll be at the Cap, music whore that I am.

Hope they got that hologram shit down.

I spent half of Dweezil's last set @ Vibes

in the beer garden, while his mechanics tried their best  to get his sound right. Half his time slot no music of any kind, not even in between band music.

>I like lumber truck, will b powerless to resist attending one of these when it hits the west coast.<

Heck, if i enjoy red bank, i just might hit collingswood as well

I recall Zappa doesn’t play Zappa at the vibes that year....

To an often literate Quite well spoken chap:

Who is also passionate

"Go to the show ".  GGTS

frank's  bands and Frank zappa music independent of the shtick

E understands

unbelievable challenge ///// if you don't go to the shoe Heathen you will be coming a true heathen  and will probably need a time out from the Zone

I can't make it but my hologram wants me to buy him a ticket,,,should I ?

Ray with no Ike?

and I like Ahmet, and have nothing against Gail either

arf

Saw Ike's solo band for free last Saturday at a tiny bar in red bluff of all places.

pretty fucking sick for a free show in red bluff

A little dramatic there lltd.

I expect this will be in a big room like the cavernous Fox, which would make it even less enticing for me.

I'll rely on you for a thorough review.

Actually, I'll rely on E for the thorough review and will look to you for the more emotional, poetic one.

^I expect this will be in a big room like the cavernous Fox

1543 seat count basie theater in red bank nj

1050 seat theater in collingswood nj

>>>I expect this will be in a big room like the cavernous Fox, which would make it even less enticing for me

sonofabitch, I was a hoping for something like the warfield but you're probably right.

y does it seem like everyone only plays the fox these days?

How much to view the holo?

Vip of course

Yeah, is this gonna b some $200 uncle meat in your seat, saucerful of cash grab type affair?

I'd rather be in some tiered hollow where the sun..

Tiered hollow

Shappy?!

>How much to view the holo?

Vip of course<

VIP gets you in for soundcheck...pre sale starts tomorrow.  If i find the password,  I'll let you know the price.

I'm just guessing on how popular this will be, but my guess is based on how something like this would pick up steam and gain interest as the tour progresses.

And everyone plays the Fox because Another Planet knows how to book shows, and because there isn't that much similar competition, with The Masonic being the only other venue with similar capacity; a venue I much prefer to the Fox.

But maybe I'm over-estimating the draw on a thing like this and it will be in a smaller venue.

One can hope.

$200 .

A souvenir hologram ticket stub that you can stick your finger through?

Yeah, the Masonic is a total possibility for this.

i only prefer that venue slightly more than the fox, though.

I'm emotional and want to be poetic about the Warfield

Nice post brother L    And when I see you there I'll buy you a beer

Ahmet sued Dweezil to keep his own brother from using his own last name in concert

Ahmet fucking Sucks !

I've spoken to Ike, Ray, Napoleon, Chad, Patrick O'Hearn

and a few other FZ alum.

Gail made life legally miserable for all those guys,  and anyone else who just wanted to play Frank's music live.

Project Object had to disband from the non stop lawsuits.

Gail fucking Sucked !

If not for the guys on this tour I'd fuck it

Gail 'cease and desist' Zappa

The Central Scrutinizer

>If not for the guys on this tour I'd fuck it<

Absolutely.  Martin alone is worth the price of admission,  keneally alone is worth the price of admission,  thunes alone is worth the price of admission, White alone...

Plus there are the special guests...

Frank cheated on Gail.

^the rule was ... it was ok, provided it took place outside of LA

From The Count Basie Center for the Arts website:

The Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa will include longtime and legendary Zappa players Ray White, Mike Keneally, Scott Thunes, Robert Martin and Ed Mann with Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers; they’ll be joined along the way by Steve Vai, Ian Underwood, Lady Bianca, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Arthur Barrow.   Hours of never-before-seen (or heard) Zappa performance footage from the early seventies form the basis of the “can’t miss” concert spectacle.

"joined along the way" kinda sucks. You have no idea who you're getting.

^You get the core band, plus some others. For me, the touring unit is more than adequate, the guests are just a little added gravy

ggff98.jpg

First stop on the tour, The Capitol on April 19th.           What could possibly go wrong?

But I wouldn't mind seeing Ian Underwood.

Pre-sale code        BIZARRE

I do not care about zoner cred or innie status, I love ZAPPA and am not sure how I feel about this tour. I think I am going to have to check it out as well, great band supporting this, which the fences were mended and Ike was on board but, I still may have to check it out

I heard Adrian belew has declined to participate

I thought it was the Joes Garage all 3 acts.

Am I wrong with this?

Yea huge Zappa junkie, my older brothers had all his work and I was singing his tunes in 3rd grade.

No shows close to me but a quick jaunt up to Baltimore may be in the cards.

>>>Am I wrong with this?

yes

Bring back Bunk

The_Mothers_of_Invention_(1968).jpg

I sure hope they bring this out West!

They will

This all sounds strictly commercial...

Where's Tommy Mars?

Will they begin the show with holo Frank rolling over in its grave?

Will viewing holo Frank cause my eyes to become deflicted  (and will anti-bluelight glasses protect me)?

Will there be a holo poncho?

>>>sounds strictly commercial

{{{{{Ahmetigated Audacity}}}}}

>This all sounds strictly commercial<

It seems that commercial success continues to elude...

Red Bank presale has been going since 10am and center orch row A is still available

Recently, we Zappa siblings (Diva, Ahmet and Dweezil) got together with the goal of resolving our differences. Once we sat down and actually listened to one another, we found a much greater understanding of each other’s intentions. We regret that our communication broke down and that things were misconstrued. It may be a bumpy road at times – we are a passionate Italian family – but we have decided to work toward privately discussing issues rather than using public forums and lawyers.

We are hopeful that if any of our father’s fans have felt conflicted, they can join us in the peace of our resolution. With our best feet forward, we are moving ahead and will faithfully deliver much more of our father’s indefinable brilliance, also known as the “World’s Finest Optional Entertainment.”

Thank you for your passion and love for our father. We can assure you, we all feel the same about him.

imo Gail and Ahmet both have done what Frank had wanted, and Frank was a very tuff businessman. And when it comes down to it Ahmet has done pretty damn well for himself outside of the music business, his Father would be damn proud of the kid.

I will only go if the Mammy Nuns are there serving mash potatoes at the set break

Or if it ever if it ever gets within 100 miles of my house

So a band member could walk through Zappa, plausible?

That Zappa Family statement left out Moon Unit.  Where's she at with all of this?

I imagine Moon Unit is alright with it, Diva and Ahmet are the two that were left in charge of the Trust and were the ones that charged Dweezil the fees, which as a member of the trust himself would get some back as a member.

I'm in for Boston, kinda spendy but curiosity and all

$59 for orchestra row I at The Cap ain't too shabby.  And yeah, the pre-sale tix are moving kinda slow.

Not sure how frank would feel about family state of affairs skyman. All I know is to sue your brother to keep him from playing your fathers music is, well I don't think there's a correct term yet coined. We're talking Music here, not gov't secrets.

And Gail, what can you say about a woman who kept her husbands music from being played and loved live. I had her e-mail and correspond a bunch of times. She was tough and unrepentant. Should count my blessings she allowed Dweezil play frank live.

There's a special place for people like that my brother.

Frank, knowing the road can't go on forever would have franchised bands. Wouldn't have been too much trouble either, there's only a handful of musicians that can pull off Frank's music correctly.

Seeing project object with DONNAPIKE was some of the greatest music of my life. Thank you Andre'

And this sick player, Seahag, never to be heard playing frank again. So sad.

Joe's Garage people, y'all remember, before they made music illegal.

It hurts me knowing Frank's futuristic vision of making music illegal would be carried out by his own family. Now this hologram shit ? If not for the musicians I'd so be fucking this tour.

WTF Zappa's

Incorporate don't annihilate

Be checking out Vai on the Hendrix Tour in April

Can't fucking wait

Project Object was the best Zappa cover band I have witnessed, wish they would tour more often. Seeing music I loved for 20 bucks played at the highest level was a blast, wish Gail hadn't feuded with Ike and put a stop to that band back in the Day. Really miss the Bionic Baritone doing his thing.

I am hoping this tour will be fun, just doing the one show, mostly out of curiosity on the hologram thing. The band looks like it should be good as well, on paper anyway

In for red bank,  cent. orch row h...$83 and change

so there's an audience of this tour up on lossless legs, but I just don't have the heart to dl it.

enjoyed the music..... the portions with the "holograms" reminded me of being in someones living room watching them play guitar hero

Easy pass
