i get my years end bonus Friday, think imma' gonna surprise the old lady and take her to Baltimore Saturday night...the unfortunate thing is my company holiday party is in NYC 12/15 or we'd be seeing him in Wilkes Barre, an hour from here...

Love those free streams!

I know what I will be doing this weekend.   Dude is relentless and has been playing around 110 shows per year.

>>>>think imma' gonna surprise the old lady and take her to Baltimore Saturday night

Good man.

Ill be at Cuse

we are ON for Saturday night...pulled the trigger, pair of floor seats, on the aisle , literally last 2 rows in front of the mix....

300 w/ Fees for the pair. Looks like its a crab cake dinner pre show....

Just told the wife on her lunch break - she is thoroughly thrilled, shes a HUGE Billy fan

She took up guitar during the pandemic and she understands his virtuosity

Enjoy freaks.   Always a great show.

damn it Billy I still cant cancel my nuggs subscription... all your fault... Thanks

Don't feel bad Tommy! I renewed last month and I pretty much just use the sub for Strangs (and Grisman, they have a fantastic collection of Dawg).

I just renewed for another year, too.

Can't really beat it if you watch a lot of video streams, I also stream recent show audio at work. Definitely money well-spent imo

Hey Mike, I know you enjoyed that first Baltimore show.  Just finished watching the stream.  I wish I was there.  Holy God that band is tight.

Bump, in case someone missed that Nugs is running free Billy Strings streams right now.  Nugs seems to run lots of free Billy streams for members, so to my mind this is the best $15.00 monthly membership I've ever spent. This is my first exposure to whole shows and boy am I impressed. I'd been watching individual clips of songs and stuff like that, but watching a whole show is the way to go to see what Billy is really all about.  I love Bluegrass, so getting into Billy wasn't hard for me. but he goes so beyond Bluegrass that my mind is blown at each concert I watch. This guy is becoming the master of Space. Just some great extended space jamming going on with this band.  Best to have a good woofer to really crank the bass because that upright seems low in the mix to me. Have yet to see him live, but I could certainly see doing a mini tour following this band.  Wow. Night two in Baltimoere tonight and I think Nugs is streaming 2 or 3 more after that.

Indeed.  We canceled most of our paid streaming services because we hardly watched them (don't have cable either).  But we have nugs.net on pretty much every night that we aren't going out.

I totally agree, full show is the best listening. Billy and band are becoming set list masters. They'll take you on a wild journey through extremely old traditional ballads to Saturn on the flip of a dime. They've mastered the tease fest in the middle of jams as well. It's fun to try and guess if they just teased FLAS and Beatles or if it's all in your mind. Glad you're having fun with it too!

Hey all -

i did not have time to properly review our first live Billy experience...first WHEW...

We really liked the 15-10-5 min warnings before houselights went out.  Our seats were really in a sweet spot, we were on the cross aisle right in front of FOH control, like 8' from the sound desk....the band is tight, they weave, they tease, they push each other, they are having PHUN and that all comes flowing off the stage at you.

Billy is a master showman at this point and he can command a room easily.

Royal Masat is a absolute fucking monster on bass...after the first set, i walked over the Audio engineer and complimented him on the sound - THEY HAVE IT DIALED IN - and i mentioned the bass sound and he admitted that he had pushed the bass in the mix the last song ' to its bleeding edge ' and it made sense...

the crew was very nice and graciously accepted the compliments....they are having phun tooo

when / if you go, be prepared to have your mind blown by the band and the energy in the room, its worth the price of admission

peace ya'll

Great to see the Billy reviews. He's got some shows coming up on Nugs and Molly is streaming the next four nights for free!!!!! LOVE MOLLY!

Sweet, Fishcane. A GREAT night ahead! Way to go! Great pic. Billy looks really happy.

Bill Monroe signed my guitar and I saved a spot next to him - for Sam Bush, who was pleased about that.

Uncloudy Day...

Great first set tonight.  Not much of a bluegrass feel to this set.  More just jammin acoustic americana. The cover of Summertime was hard edged, but very sublime. If Billy wants a bluegrass vocal its dialed in; if he wants hard edged rock it is dialed in. And likewise, if he wants to blow your mind with a subtle jazz infused voice, it is right at his fingertips. Guy is on fire.

Plays that acoustic like a Stratocaster.  His pedal effects are so wide ranging and he can basically make that acoustic guitar sound like f'ing anything he wants. And boy can he bend a string.  Been watching all the streams this month and every shows is completely different and all are unique in their own way. This bands breadth of knowledge of all americana music genres is something to behold.  I learn more of what this band is capable of with each new set of music I see.  I think this first set tonight is for my taste the best I've seen all month.  Just jaw dropping.

Well now that show just flat out rocked from start to finish.  If he can top that show tomorrow I'll be amazed, but not surprised. These 5 players are all simply great at what they do. I hope this train keeps rolling for many a year. I've yet to see them live, but I'm more than ready to remedy that.

Definitely pull the trigger on tickets to see him live! You'll be glad you did heart

Yep.  Billy and his band are one of the best things going in live music right now.   Swear that boy most have spent some time down at the crossroads, he is that good.

And he is that good in so many ways. His singing, his playing, his songwriting, his showmanship, his ability to lead a band of so many highly-talented musicians, and to maintain what appears to be genuine humility in the midst of some runaway success, plus I hear he's a pretty good fisherman too. The kid's got it all.

I'm amazed that he can pick so flawlessly and remember the words to all the many songs he sings, considering his supposed affection for mind-altering substances.

How in the hell do you toke on a J and then pick like that?

The short answer is state dependent memory. If you want to play shows stoned, you need to practice stoned too.
