right on

Going to LSU this week for a project nearby....was thinking...I hope they win so I don't have to hear about all the disappointment.

>>spin off on Nancy’s thread

not quite.

Since you're here, what's your take on the big sugar catastrophe in FL?

You really have to ask? I love Florida, especially the fishing, just wish I had more time to do it.

Red Bloom has been around for a long time but I can not remember a year like this. If they can tie this to big sugar maybe it will take them down a notch or two, but I highly doubt it, Trump will deny it, dems will piss themselves and nothing will happen. I live by Lake Apopka, I believe it Is the second largest lake in Florida, and it was killed, by the run off of fertilizers from the flower industry and pesticide industry in Apopka. All the fish, gators and wild life were killed, crippled or mutated, even humans had side effects. For over 20 years it was a Dead Lake. It was a Democrat Lawton Chiles that initiated the clean up and it is coming back finally.

I’m old and cynical and just think both parties work together in the economics of disaster together. The Republicans lift regulations, grow economy, things fuck up and the dems clean it up and grow another economy around it. Our government is stupid. Wake me up when we base our economy around sports, recreation, the arts, entertainment, and everyone gets enough vacation time and pay to enjoy life.

So if I'm not 100 % Polish I don't qualify for the Grant ??

What if I go to the local Polish Embassy and get a document saying that I'm 52% Polish ?

Perhaps I'll get the Kosciuszko  Foundation involved (sp.?)  I think that's how you spell it.

I believe that I was a member in Good Standing at some point.

Definitely have a bunch of Polish relatives.

Totally Unfair to discriminate.

And you think I'm kidding,  because I like to joke around,  but I'm serious this time.

We Poles have had a hard time in the last century or so.  USSR,  Germany,  Austria took over our country and killed everyone off.

How funny is that ?

Sure,  (insert racist Pollock Joke here) it's all so funny making fun of the Poles.  Like it was our damn fault for having strategic land in every conflict dating back to the Austro-Hungarian wars in the early Teen centuries.

I love Florida too.  It gets a bad rap from people who don't know how beautiful and unique the place is, living in a place like Nebraska would be hell to me.

That's terrible.  Not familiar, but I'm going to read up on the subject.

Wonderful contributions Surfdead and Alan. Appreciate it

This spin off thread proves that even in these trying times that more people are still more into the pole than actual going to the poles

Ha.  First thought was Alan's pic.  Surf's was a nice bonus.smiley

hi Bluest, when you want to make a special trip to Florida we can rendezvous.  It will be special.

I really need to get back to FLA one day.  I haven't been since I was little kid in the late 60's/early 70's when we lived in Tennessee and later George and the family would vacation at places like Panama City, Daytona Beach, Cape Canaveral, and Disneyworld.  I remember loving Okefenokee and anything to do with critters.  I used to have a picture of me at about 4 years old holding a large Indigo Snake at the Ross Allen reptile farm.. apparently they had asked for a volunteer from the audience and I ran up there, which shocked my parents as they are absolutely terrified of snakes (they both grew up in the South around cotton mouths and copper heads).

What's the best time of year to go?

March for perfect weather. Sept-early October if you want to hit the parks.

Early december.

I see you, Stalky.

GFY.

March is before hurricane season, right?  Seems like Sept/Oct (now) could be hit or miss...

Brian d, how would your wife feel if she knew you were speaking to another woman that way? #briandmetoo

From mid October to April it’s pretty much sunshine and in the the 80’s, just about everyday is great for weather. Hall,  I would suggest thinking about what you want to do when you are here. If you like fishing you might think about what you would like to catch and see what months are good for what you want to target. Me and my son are talking about meeting up in the keys to catch some sailfish in January or February which is good for sailfish.

if you like to golf this state is heaven, great courses all over

I think you might like renting a kayak and paddling around 10,000 Islands around Naples and camping on some islands, but we do have lots of critters and BUGS, BIG BUGS that bite. Or just head to Key West for Fantasy Fest and you could kayak and swim the reefs at http://pennekamppark.com/

I like the cities of St. Pete and Tampa myself. Miami is it’s own thing but not my thing, I lived around there and Ft Lauderdale and had my fun in the Miami vice days of the cocaine cowboys and the $100 eight balls. Jacksonville and Orlando are hick towns, but Jacksonville at least has the ocean and a nice downtown area with great city views, Orlando has Disney and all the smelly tourist that it attracts. Avoid Orlando unless you have kids or are a food junkie, tons of great places to eat.

Hurricane season is June - November, hurricanes are a rite of passage in becoming Florida Man

August is a lil warm

>>Brian d, how would your wife feel if she knew you were speaking to another woman that way? #briandmetoo

worth repeating.

Man, I hate snakes and they are all over in Florida.  Your parents must have been thrilled!

Snakes are cool.

How many people do you know who have been bitten by a venomous snake?

I know one. He was raising rattlesnakes.

There was a fat rat snake on the second floor once.  Walked outside and he hissed at me.  The gardener/handyman said he found the snake on the third floor a day or two later.  He killed it.  Felt bad for the snake, but I'm guessing he's encountered a lot of snakes.  I've come across water snakes while kayaking in Florida.

So the ride on the pole thread has now evolved into snake talk

Seems appropriate

Anyone come in contact with the one  eyed trouser snake?
