Fuck the USPS

Forums:

Here's my sweet ranting blog:

My daughter starts grad school in England in just over a month. She had me send her passport so that she could get her visa, which I did. Tracking showed delivered in box, but she didn't get it. I filed a customer service claim and spoke with the postmaster. "GPS shows it was delivered. Must have been stolen. Call the cops. Nothing we can do."

Huh? She has a locked mailbox. It wasn't stolen. It was as mis-delivered.

We're hoping that it will show up today, or that the USPS dipshits will open the other boxes to see if it's in one of them. If not, we have a week to try to get a replacement passport. Good luck on that one!

There's a good chance she won't be able to go to grad school because the USPS can't get an envelope to the right place 25 miles away. Four months rent has already been paid and thousands of dollars in fees and deposits have been paid.

Meanwhile, the Postmaster is still that piece of shit that Trump installed so that he could steal the election.

What a shitshow!

our mailman is the best. just recently went above and beyond to get a package to us that the address/name had all smeared off. it was important.

your package has gps?

shows delivered where? doesn't make sense.

queue up the anti govt. rhetoric contingent...

Lesson learned Brian. NEVER EVER send anything like that (passport, legal documents, etc.) of value with USPS without sending it priority, signature required.
Sorry for your troubles, hope it all works out.

That sucks and must be stressful and infuriating.   I assume there is has to be protocol for replacement of a lost and stolen passport.   Happens to travelers all the time.

I think his GPS comment is regarding the tracking via bar code scans along the journey.

I get USPS "Informed Delivery" daily emails. The letters shown typically get delivered the day of the email (but not always), but the packages to be delivered that day sometimes arrive 1-3 days later.

Bueno suerte...

Postal service is fine - can't live without them. But yes - Joe - please shitcan that postmaster a s a p.

You might want to contact your US Rep or Bernie Sander's office, BK. They can sometimes help out with stuff like this.

Do you drive ? If not disregard...

But, if so,

25 miles isnt that far. You could have brought it to her yourself and sent her off.  (She is your daughter)

Sorry about mishap.....

and if she is in England, I take back my 25 miles statement

But if she is close & you drive (or can afford transport) , this couldve been avoided :)

Hindsight is 20/20, right? Had I known that the USPS couldn't do their job, I would have altered plans and driven it myself. It seemed like a safe bet, seeing as it was going from one PO to another, with no stops in between, and being delivered to a locked mailbox. I'd like to think that it's not my fault for simply using the USPS.

I've already got Bernie's office on it. Hopefully they can get her rush appointment at the passport agency.

for a fee you can get a replacement passport right away at any US passport office. Lost mine before a trip and got one within an hour from walking into the passport office in Norwalk or Stamford CT can't remember which.

this was in 2010

You have to make appointments for the "super expedited" passport service these days. The system is flooded with post-COVID hopeful travelers, and you the online system is shut down. The phone # loops to a busy signal. Bernie's office is working on getting her an appointment, ASAP.

The current wait time for a mail-in passport is 18 weeks, and 12 weeks for expedited. Yikes!

> I've already got Bernie's office on it.

There you go. Make them work for the big money we pay them.

Good luck with the hoop jumping.   And you know exactly what is going to happen.  You are going to spend days scrambling and moving mountains and within an hour of a new passport being issued, the old one will show up with an "oops we're sorry message."

, my apologies

i was just being a..... you know

hopefully it all works out

Appreciated, Frank, being a "you know" comes with the Zone territory.

After more digging we've narrowed the problem down to the carrier being lazy and putting the Express Mail envelope on top of the locked mailbox rather than in it (which seems to be common). No other units in the building have checked their mail since Saturday, so we know it wasn't put in the wrong box. It simply wasn't put in a box at all. A flat Express Mail envelope is a beacon for any scumbag walking by. I got the postmaster to admit, with a witness in the background, that if it was put in an of the locked boxes it wouldn't be missing, and the only way it could be is if the carrier didn't do this job. That does nothing for this situation, but it's a problem that needs fixing.

Meanwhile, Bernie's people contacted my daughter, got a release and are working on setting up an appointment.

This is a shitty deal; Bernie (and people) to the rescue!

Bernie's people came through. We have an appointment at 11 on Monday, and they're even rescheduling the visa appointment.

Fuck yeah! Now she can have a good 22nd birthday tomorrow!

Right on. Our politicians are good for something every once in a while.

She'll be able to breathe enough to blow out her birthday candles!

did you have to flex your jerry tat?

18 weeks for mail in? I sent in 6 weeks ago. Bastards cashed my check after 2 weeks.  Guess I've got another 3 month wait. Oh well not going out of the country anytime soon anyway.

Keith maybe you can visit a foreign place like Texas?

Call the Postmaster and ask to speak with and file with the Postal Inspector General.

I've had good experience with all the carriers, but have also had at least one, way off the menu experience with each one as well.

Was it regular or expedited?

Around here the carriers wear street clothes.

Good luck with  this, BrianK.

It's important.
