They use CP as the excuse to sift through your phone because who wants to protect those assholes, but at some point something will happen that will be a huge emergency and now they have the system in place because we all agreed it was fine for CP and this "over dose epidemic" is just horrible and we need to know who is using drugs in order to protect them.
And who wouldn't want to alert parents that your 13 year old is sending or receiving nude pictures except for the gay kid in some red state exchanging pictures with his boyfriend who is going to get killed.
China has shown that the authoritarian surveillance state does an outstanding job of stopping Covid in its tracks. I would rather have Covid than the government tracking my every move and giving me a social acceptance score.
If you think for a second that if someone has pictures flagged and the human review expert (there's a fun job) looks at it and determines that it isn't CP but it sure looks like some fucked up dungeon shit and those people could be being held against their will that they won't hand over the information to LEO, or a parent taking innocent pictures of their kids taking a bath. This solution is way worse than the problem.

there are already pics that the Feds and local PDs use to try and find compromised children, this is a next step...
