Garbage...Heavy Metal?

Forums:

Did you know that the band Garbage, while not really heavy metal, has been a band for 28 years? Also, they have had the same members the entire time.

Trivia for today. How many bands can you name that have been together over 25 years with the same members? It is a short list.

ZZ Top

Golden Earring

U2

Aerosmith

X

Phish

Didn't Joey Kramer recently have a falling out with Aerosmith?

Los Lobos

The Radiators

I'd have said Yo La Tengo but their wikipedia shows Dave Scherr toured with them in 2015.
Not sure about Los Lobos, knowing Louis Pérez can still drum with them, but that their longtime drummer passed off the throne to Bugs Gonzalez around 2009-2010 in '05.

The Necks

Wooden Shjips

Los Lobos added a drummer around ten years ago so Louie Perez could spend more time out front.

Phish ... oh yeah, Ken already mentioned that :-)

Didn't Aerosmith have some different members for a short stint in the early to mid 80s?

Rush is one I can think of that has not been mentioned yet.

^Neil Peart is not Rush's original drummer

Yep, Joe Perry left in 1979 and Brad Whitford left in 1981.   Both returned in 1984.

However, as I read it, OP was asking about bands who had the same lineup for 25+ years.   It has been 36 years since Perry and Whitford returned.  Not sure of Joey Kramer's status in the band these days.

If you are looking at 25 year period with the same lineup, Rush would also count.

Sleater-Kinney just finished a 25 year run (1994-2019).  Original drummer Janet Weiss retired at the end of 2019.

SCI

^^^^

This year will be SCI's 25th year in operation, but Jason Hann didn't join the band until sometime in the 2000s.

Old 97's

Fair enough, Ken.

Dave Alvin replaced Billy Zoom in X for a couple/few years.

No, that was Tony Gilkyson.  Alvin was always a member of the Knitters side project.

They have had Billy Zoom back for most of the last 25 years.

Radiohead

Green Day

you beat me to Radiohead. I did not think of Green Day yet.

Motley Crue

^^^^^

I was thinking about Crue too, but Vince Neil either quit or was fired (depending on who you talk with) in the early 90s and replaced by John Corabi for a few years. Tommy Lee also left the band for a while and was replaced by Ozzy's drummer Randy Castillo.

Technically, however, the classic line up has been together for more than a total of 25 years, albeit not continuously.

Ween's current line-up formed in 1996.

Medeski, Martin & Wood (Scofield and Cline sit-ins notwithstanding).
