'No other' is one of the most underrated albums of the 70's

Furious

If I may call you that. I'm aware that comments get misunderstood on the interweb, please do not take this as personal

I am in the minority and think No Other is one the most overrated records of the 70's, didn't understand the fascination when it came out and still don't but that's just me

No offense takin at all, heyheyhey.

what was your issue with the album?

Did it just not grab u?

surely u don't think there's a better Clark solo release?

from the compositions, to the lyrics, to the personnel, to the engineering, 'no other' seems to have all the earmarks of a masterpiece.

Furious

I can't really say , maybe it just didn't speak to me then, maybe it was the other stuff I was listening to, all you say in the last line of your post is true,but...

I might have to revisit some day if I can figure out why Spotify isn't working on my Mac, I don't want to buy it again , lol

I encourage u to give it another spin.

i get the impression Clark put everything he had into that album and kinda just gave up and faded away after its all but total commercial failure.

shame u don't have a vinyl copy I could take off your hands, lol

My first wife "encouraged" me to get rid of my vinyl in the mid 80's when I started buying cd's, 2000 pieces gone. Then we divorced and I moved into a NYC studio apartment so I would have had to get rid them them anyway :)

As for Clark, seemed to have a bunch of issues, fear of flying, substance abuse, not sure which came first, failure to sell music or the drugs, but in any case I'll try the cd again sometime down the road

I was lucky enough to be managing a nightclub in Hartford in the mid 1980 s that booked some great live shows. Over a five or six year period we had Tom Rush, Maria Mulduar, Dave Mason, The Fabulous Rhinestones, The Guess Who, and The Grassroots, among many others. I think my favorite show of them all was Gene Clark and His All Stars (i blv it was called, i know he couldnt use The Byrds in any promo etc, as i was one of two ppl booking the shows and recall WANTIN to promote that. I think in the end we were able to put "formerly of the Byrds" in parenthesis under his name in any print ads etc). It was such a great show, he was a real nice guy, and played a mix of Byrds, Dylan, Beach Boys , and a few other old 60s-70 s covers. Just a fantastic show, for sure.

I havent thought of that show for a long time, and havent listened to the above mentioned (great) album in a long long time. Thanks for the reminder!!

Have a great Sunday, all.

No Other is a great album but for some reason I love and have listened to Roadmaster more. Totally unheralded record that the record co pulled the plug on
