strange ending

"While the bodies were found Wednesday afternoon, police were not able to identify them as the actor and Arakawa until Thursday morning"

and 2 dogs alive inside, so my initial thoughts of gas leak maybe not?

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Oscar-winner Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog were found dead in different rooms of their Santa Fe home, and they had been dead for some time, according to investigators.

Hackman, 95, was found dead Wednesday in a mudroom and his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, was found dead in a bathroom next to a space heater, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a search warrant. There was an open prescription bottle and pills scattered on the counter top near Arakawa.

Denise Avila, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said there was no indication that any of them had been shot or had other types of wounds.

Hackman relished playing the bad guy.

Killed the dog, his wife, and himself.  Kind of like Hitler.

Great actor.  R.I.P.

Java Dave, respectfully: as usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.

It could have been his wife who doled out the meds too.  As he was 95, and she was in her 60s, that probably makes more sense.  It's all speculation at this point, and it doesn't really matter.

Gene Hackman lived a long 95 years, and played many great roles.  Salute!

A lot of great roles, but the best one was the evil sheriff in Unforgiven.   RIP.

Mostly legendary. I saw French Connection II recently, and thought it was pretty bad through and through.

RIP Gene Hackman.

Mississippi Burning

RIP gene. 95 years old. You won!

"Now boy -- when you gonna marry the girl?"  Buck Barrow.

I got to walk through a shoot with him at Union Square in SF in The Conversation.

A strange end to a strange but brilliant guy.

I bet he was going to make espresso.

Very strange ending of three lives.  I wouldn't rule out foul play. I wonder how the authorities ruled out foul play so quickly.

Open pill bottle with scattered pills seems so much like a set up to me. And the dead dog has me wondering.

If suicides then the dog would have no injuries. If foul play then possibly the dog was defending his people and the perpetrator needed to kill him first.  I want to know how the dog died. Blood work should tell a lot about all of this.

>>>I wouldn't rule out foul play. I wonder how the authorities ruled out foul play so quickly.

Agreed.   This smells quite a bit.

So wife had Hantavirus and died first and they believe Gene died a week later. Didn’t have that on my bingo card

What killed the dog?

Dehydration

The dead dog was crated the two alive ones weren't. Hackman also had advanced Alzheimer's so probably didn't understand what was going on. Just sad all around.

Very sad.  Seems like there was a 10-14 day period where no one checked in on them.

This is exactly why I'm glad I don't have a dog anymore.

If you have nothing, you have nothing to worry about.

Poor pup.

What a set of circumstances, so sad. It all makes sense, but is so sadly terrible. Remembering my father with Alzheimer's, after a certain time he wouldn't have known what was going on. It hurts me just thinking about it.

I wasn't aware that hantavirus could so quickly debilitate you.  His wife Betsy didn't have dementia, but was unable to call for help.

It sounds like they didn't find any evidence of hantavirus in their residence, but they did find it in some outbuildings on the property.

Mouse droppings can kill you. When they dry and get stirred up, the virus, if present, can become airborne.
