I was thinking the same thing, but I worry that the opposite could also be true.

Bss, you were significantly involved first-hand in the military; in your opinion, despite the waste of time today may have been, how many of the people in that room might be encouraged overall by the growing militaristic mentality of this administration?

I know nothing, but I have to think that some if not many of those high-ranking career "warriors" hate the perceived weakness of the bleeding heart liberals, and are happy to hear this message, even if it is amateurish and unhinged.

At least half the citizens of this country are on board with crushing the "radical left enemies of the state", so it seems logical that many of our military leaders feel the same way.

As this shitstorm continues to grow, can we count on those important people to be sane, professional and committed to honoring the Constitution as the pressure on them mounts?

Because if not, this storm could quickly start getting REALLY real.

There won't be a civil war in the sense of an actual war, but if MAGA/P25 gets their way with the military behind them we will live in a police state where everyone will be expected to know their place and tow the party line, or else.

Of course there will be an underground resistance, who The State will encourage the general population to rat out and who will then be seized and disappeared.

I'm sure there are high ranking MAGA's and most aren't liberals but they are smart and as Trump said smart people don't like me. I mean getting into one of the academies is more difficult than getting into an Ivy League school. They have also spent the last 40 years building the most diverse - integrated institution in the US. 

I don't think they will come to our rescue but I also don't think they will lead the charge and they did not look happy today.

That's all well & good, and I'm not particularly surprised that that's how many of them might feel, but what happens when the Commander-in-chief gives them a direct order to occupy and control an American city, and to seize American citizens who are deemed to be domestic terrorists or enemies of the state?

A LARGE number of people worldwide know that Trump and his entire crew are arrogant, deranged, incompetent dipshits, but while they continually screw things up and expose themselves as amateurish idiots every day, they also have the POWER, at least for the moment, and power beats intellect, laws, common sense and decency.

When they got the order the National Guard and Marines showed up in LA and Washington DC, and I imagine they'll show up in Portland, Chicago, SF and anywhere else the President orders them to go. It sure seems to me that whatever they may think of Trump those supremely well-trained professional soldiers will follow his orders, and if they refuse they will be replaced by those who will.

Scary shit.

The next couple rounds of elections and their aftermath really are going to be historically important. If MAGA/P25 continue to consolidate all the power they'll soon be able to order that all citizens be required to change their underwear every half-hour, and must wear them outside their clothes so they're sure we're following orders......... and who will be able to stop them?

Our best hope is that Trump and his sycophants really are incompetent, bumbling idiots and they'll keep banging their heads on the ceiling often enough that a portion of the "anybody but the libtards" crowd will realize they fucked up and vote the other way.

But will those votes be counted???

My hope is that people are waking up to this. I think a lot of people in that room were just fine with Trump knocking some heads around and putting a brake on diversity particularly when it came Making America Safe For Sexual Assault Again. But that isn't how dictators roll -  they will eventually come for those that put them in power because those are the people most likely to take power for themselves.

Yesterday they made it clear to the people in that room. You're either on the idiocracy bus or you aren't, and if you aren't we will be coming for you. It's good for them to see it up close and personal, but no I don't look for anyone in that room to come to save us - if anything they will use the idiocracy as an excuse to take control themselves. I've always thought that Trump isn't smart enough to pull it off himself, but he sure as hell woke a lot of smart people up to the fact that it really wouldn't be all that hard to do.
