"The Get Down" on Netflix

Just finished watching both seasons of "The Get Down" on Netflix.

If you haven't seen it, its a big budget, period musical drama set in the South Bronx in 1977 - 1978 at the height of the Disco era and features a group of young inner city kids guys trying to make it in the nascent hip hop scene.   Great soundtrack and lots of Afros, gaudy Cadillacs, bad drugs, and seedy characters.   While fictional, it does have regular appearances by historical figures like Grandmaster Flash, DJ Cool Herc, and Mayor Ed Koch.   The "Bronx is Burning"  wasteland provides a stunning backdrop and the show provides lots of insights on the development of rap music.   Even if you don't like disco or rap, its an interesting and entertaining series.

Loved The Get Down. One of my all time favorite Netflix shows. As for Girl Boss I just can't stand the lead character. I just keep hoping she gets hit by a bus so I had to stop watching.

As for the Girl Boss girl I guess I have had too many of those kind of people in my life so it’s not funny to see on screen. The kind of person who announces on Facebook that they had a really bad week and the only thing that is going to fix it is a month with their Ayahuasca shaman in Peru, followed by a post about how you really can only experience Burningman if you volunteer to be there for a couple of months. Which is all fine but then without fail you see the inevitable GoFundMe request.
