any of you gals here going/gone thru menopause?!

lonnnng story short (as can be for me):

my blood was like clockwork pretty much since it began (at age 11!) until about, let's say 50ish. it always lasted a full week, but was also predictable on a perfect 28 day cycle

suddenly things not only got irregular, but extra bloody...

clots that got to be pretty sizable began as part of the fun, to where an uber plug plus pad were still full by 4ish hours. any of you who know that **feeling** of the #clotdrop knows the shudder experience of disgust

my then manager and now good pal Cindy told me about some *magic* pill she had been on for years that stopped her blood, presumably for life, and she's perfectly satisfied with that. lol

in turn, i went on "lo loestrin fe" for a good couple of years, 2018-19 roughly, which did magically end my blood, and with no side effects

fast forward to 2 years ago, i was unable to get my magic drug anymore, and also felt like it was time to let nature take her course again because clearly i wasn't done with it just because it was temporarily stopped

.....no blood came for a good long while. many months, i would say. then, it was back with a vengeance!

in the past year plus, i have lived with now unpredictable cycles, sometimes skipping a couple months, sometimes lasting 3 weeks ar a stretch...

now i am actively dealing with it, just having turned 54, and, knowing both my mother and sister each had hysterectomies while in their 40's: the latter, in an emergency surgery sitch. my mother may have had the same circumstance. i was 6 when it happened to her and i got shipped away to my aunt's house for 4 months, so there was prob something up, but i never thought to find out.

sidenote: i have recently had an ultrasound, and some other heinous procedure (something biopsy) when they go all up in your uterus to remove tissue for testing. if you had it, you know the horror of which i speak !!!!!

at this point, i am at the juncture where i must decide which step is next.

one dearly beloved zoner says to just get the whole works taken out, which i am not fully against. i am just no fan of surgery. especially after my horrible c-section that brought my Jacko into the world.

there's also the option of ablation, d&c, and, the gross idea of an IUD put into me, because, ew.

so, that's my sweet blog

if you care to share personal experience, or in any way is appreciated.

POWER TO THE PERIOD (and end thereof)

Just came across this, Jill.

Hi Jill, I was surgically thrust into menopause in 2000 when I was 51. I had been peri-menopausal for a while, waiting. I had a large mass in my abdomen (that I named Rupert after the mutant baby in the movie The Bed Sitting Room) and since it was unclear what it was or what it was attached to, large explorations and removals took place. My uterus, tubes, ovaries and lesser omentum (not a reproductive organ, but semi-useful as a way to keep ruptured appendix gick contained) were all removed. They also "ran" my colon and put it back. Why they didn't take my appendix, I don't know, I wish they had. I have all of the parts they removed in "seal-a-meal" bags, given to me in bags marked "Patient Belongings". I asked for them at the time but no longer want them but it's challenging to find legal ways to get rid of them because they're in formalin in the "seal-a-meal" bags.

Did you say, long story short? Well, I didn't, and that's the background to the extravaganza. My periods started when I was 10 and as you know that's an event that changes everything. They were irregular, heavy, a PITA. I had a tubal ligation when I was 30 (1980). The monthly uterine clean outs continued. By the way, I loved IUD's. Lighter periods, no pregnancy, easy.

After my body settled down after the surgery life was much more pleasant. Having an abdominal hysterectomy sucked; it sounds like having it vaginally is so much easier. If there's reason to do it, given that you're having biopsies, etc., it sounds reasonable. I wouldn't have my ovaries removed just because, though if you have a history of ovarian cancer in your family it makes a lot of sense.

I hope you have ease soon. You've been doing this for a long time.

Yes, I will answer any questions you have.

I didn't have much in the way of hot flashes and went through all of the menopause stuff in about 6 months (my friend said, "You're so efficient!"). But now, on estrogen blocking Rx for breast cancer, I'm having mild hot flashes most evenings. Perhaps they will pass efficiently.

I went through menopause a while ago in my early 50's and had irregular periods too for a few months, then they stopped. I took black cohosh to help with the side effects of night sweats, insomnia, etc.

I am sorry I cannot give you any feedback as far as a hysterectomy.

Did you know cold flashes are a thing?

Nope, never heard of cold flashes. Now I know, thanks. (Nice that Google says they only last a couple of minutes. I hope that's so.)

uuuggghhh... so sorry you're going through that Jill... :-(

mine was more like 3 weeks on 1 week off so they also put me on some variety of loestrin ~ for quite a while ~ and at sometime during that "quite a while" i guess things just stopped cuz once i quit taking it i was a crone ~ LOL! (and YAY!)

good luck! heart

Much respect and appreciation for those whose bodies have the ability to create, deliver, and nurture new life.

And not envious of what you and your bodies go through, related to these miraculous powers.

Skadhi, that's what i was hoping for, then she came back, that bitch !

Judit your story is similar to my sister who had an emergency hysterectomy around the same age as you

beginning to bleed young was a crazy shitty hassle, especially when everyone else had it so much later.

remember hot water bottles?! /:

also: maybe theres a black market for preserved ladyparts, Judit?cool
