Godzilla

Forums:

So, after the recent BOC show, my daughter became interested in Godzilla(graphic images on screen piqued her interest), we have begun working our way through the original Showa era criterion collection(1954-1975). Reviewing our history along the way, the Bikini Atoll incident and the impacts of the Atomic era. Amazing how metaphorically accurate the incident with the fishing boat was. Thinking back on my own memories of the Cold War and contrasting it with how insane it must have been to be a child growing up in post ww2 Japan.

i had forgotten how insanely good some of these movies were. What are your favorites? I have not seen any of the post 70s films.. which of those are worth watching?

I think my favorites are the OG and Destroy all Monsters

in my mind Creature from the Black Lagoon, also 1954, is Godzilla pre-nuclear reaction or whatever turned him into Godzilla. I would put it on your watch list.

one of my favorites from the Cleveland late night Houlihan and Big Chuck show

I remember when Creature came out on 3d on network television in about 1981. Great one

Godzilla v. Mechagodzilla

Went to Japan last year and the big guy is a national hero.  No statues of politicians or generals, but they did have this on top of our hotel in the Shinjuku District of Tokyo:

Godzilla Statue.jpg

It roars on the hour like a church bell.

In addition to Godzilla, there were also statues of Nintendo characters in the airport and we took a Hello Kitty (seriously) high-speed train from Tokyo to Osaka.

The original in Japanese without the weird Perry Mason parts.

The newish Godzilla Minus One is excellent.

Yea the Raymond Burr version is an extra on the set I have but it's no match for the OG imho

thT statue is awesome!!!

Blue Oyster Cult is touring?

BOC never stops touring!

Always a fan of Son of Godzilla.

Creature from the Black Lagoon>>>

The movie's sequel "Revenge of the Creature" has a surprise cast member.

Clint Eastwood,Lab Technician Jennings (uncredited)  A lab technician who appears only briefly. This was Eastwood's screen debut.

Released in 3D, put your special glasses on....

Being a big fan of the Evangelion franchise, I was intrigued when i heard that Hideaki Anno was making a Godzilla movie, and it turned out to be a great movie imho.

Shin Godzilla is a badass mofo:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sm5nHpv6dI

I saw BOC live in Santa Cruz in 71 or early 72.  They had a gimmick where all band members grabbed a guitar and they lined up on the stage edge and jammed out a song. Do they still do that?

Yes they did the four guitar attack lineup, with Ritchie Castellano(Band Geeks) I thought they were great and my daughter and I got to meet Buck,  Eric and Ritchie after. still a good live band to see imho
