Gonna have to put the cat down

Forums:

It pains me to say this but my little girl Gravy nipped at my hand this morning while I was trying to clip her toenails and I’m pretty sure that means we have to put her down.

I’ve read that her breed is prone to these types of attacks. Just imagine if there was a baby in the house.

Gravy really messed up this time.

I don’t think a baby would try to clip the cats toenails.

You know that’s a good point China. I’ve heard that once they get the taste of human flesh in their mouths that they become animals though.

Tough call

It is the only thing that can be done at this point.

You know what they say

Once they n-i-p its time to r-i-p

If you are truly serious, please take your cat to the vet first... it might be behaving that way because it is feeling ill from other symptoms you don't realize.

We just had to book surgery for a tooth extraction for our kitty...luckily caught it before an abcess developed.

Our kitty has nipped at my hand in playful way before.... it never draws blood.

Make sure you get a big flower pot for the cat

From time to time our cats have nipped and/or clawed us during claw trimming. Sometimes drawing blood. Doesn't mean a thing except maybe they didn't want their claws trimmed at that juncture.

One good trick for calming a cat during claw trimming or other minor procedure is the grab a handful of nape and massage it gently. That's where mama cats pick up kittens and the kitties are pre-programmed to relax during such.

i gotta cpl good put downs...

tell him his Mom was a cougar...

or he s acting like a dog...

they hate that

Lol.

I was shopping next door to a local dispensary, and when I was getting into my car I noticed their message board sign read "Who else but you will talk catnip with your cat?"

Take it to the market in Boulder Creek and let it go.

I agree with llollo....

Hopefully things work out for the both of you

Before you murder the fierce Feline,  consider putting that "Permanent Sleepytime" fee towards a Priority Mail box and send the  Kitteh out here to Jerseyland.

I need a good Mouser up in the Barn.  Make some holes in the box for aeration,  and make sure it has water.

... plus, cats can be very defensive re: their paws in general & if you caught her on a bad day or maybe hurt her without realizing it, she might react in such a way.

When I first got "my" cat, she clawed me in the nose ... not exactly sure why she did it, but I recall immediately picking her up and tossing her halfway across the room (not violently, but enough to throw her off balance and let her know I was mad).  She hasn't ever done anything since, and I let her get right up close and sniff my eyeball if I'm laying down .... and don't have the slightest worry.    What I'm getting at is that maybe she's testing limits and needs to find out just where they are.

Oh . . . I thought the thread title was some kind of code.

Carry on.

Hey...

Just so people know,  I was jesting with the 'priority box' solution.  Please do not mail me a Kitteh in a priority box.

The other Farmer across the road has some Extra Kittehs,  and  if they don't like my Barn,  they can go back over there.

Farm Cats tend to be extremely mobile.  They wander about all day & night.

I’ve got an UPDATE on little Gravy.

Turns out that there ISN’T a law saying you have to put your cat down after it attacks you, it’s just “highly recommended”. So, I worked out a deal with Gravy’s mom and we aren’t going to put her down as long as she stays in her cage.

My hand seems to be healing well too so as far as the outcome here, I’d say it was a 10.

Not sure how long a cat will last in a cage

Stop trimming the cat's nails.  And keep an eye on that bite.  Those skinny sharp teeth can go deep and cause horrible infections.

my cat bites me all the time.  i don't care.

OP can't be serious

..spin off thread perhaps? Or inside 'Gravy' joke?

then again, I never thought anyone would actually bury their cat in a flower pot. Carry on..
