Casino mogul and GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson has died at age 87

Men cry Peace, Peace and there is no peace.

Not exactly what I was expecting from the name of the thread. I'll try to fix it.
I'm on line waiting to get my first vaccine shot this morning. It's a drive through event and is reminding me a little of trying to get to Englishtown in '77. Lol.

Giant New GE Wind Turbine Can Power A Home For A Day In Just 7 Seconds

Death isn't good news.

But this is: my son, now 6, brought a folder full of work home from school (he just started back in-person), and he and I wallered around on the ground laughing about the stickers, stars and "excellent" on his little papers he brought home. Then we put them on the fridge.

I hope everyone is well. Time to get intentionally and relentlessly positive. Best way to fight negative idiots. And remember to be smart and thoughtful...can't fight that.

Best,

Chance

COVID test came back negative, so there's that.

Thanks loads for the good wishes folks. And wow - kisses and a hug from LLTD. Now I'm all verklempt.

Feeling pretty good. Had some trouble with shortness of breath. Saw my doc mid-December. She said to get a stress test. I took it easy and hoped for the best and waited til the new deductible period kicked in Jan 1st and got the first available appointment on Wednesday Jan 7th,. Doc called next day QUITE alarmed. Got in Monday for an angiogram and they found 2 blockages in the 90% range and put stents in. They were running a 2 for 1 special so I figured what the hell? Overnight Monday, got out Tuesday. At least they got me to a room in time for the College Football Championship game. I'm pretty sure I blew through that $4,000 deductible and left it in pieces on the side of the road. Amazing what they can do nowadays. Went up a vein the wrist.

Funny sideline in mormon Utah - the doctor's name was Brigham Smith (Brigham Young - Joseph Smith?). I figured with a name like that, he must have some extra good juju in a place like Utah. "Blessed hands" a co-worker said. Then after, he explained my blockages were close together where one artery veer's off making a "Y" shape.  I laughed inside as "the Y" is what they call the mormon college BYU. Had to work that in, eh doc? I figured it was just some kind of mormon harmonic convergence.

Mark, hope that arm and fingers are coming along. I have a brace for my arm for a few days so I don't bend my wrist and that's enough of a pain in the ass, I feel for you. Glad things are coming along for you, Judit. Stay strong.

Good news? I got scheduled for my first COVID shot on the 20th. Between the stents and the shot, I'm feeling pretty fortunate.

And the COVID tests before and after the "procedure" were negative also. And I still have over 300 hours of sick time to use.

Love the Bogo

get well, Slick

It's kind of funny. When I got my diagnosis - cancer - I said to myself,  "Why me"? And then, the other day, when I got the good news, I said the same thing.

It's been a rough couple of months for me personally, but I'm still looking for the positives every day.  My dad succumbed to pneumonia at age 93 on December 27th, joining my Mom in eternity 72 days after she had passed.  The positives I take from that experience are that he is at peace and no longer hampered by his broken down body, that he was able to fly out here after Mom passed, and we had about a month and a half of good time together with lots of clear conversations and good meals, and that I was able to be there at the end and to see he was free of pain and ready to let go.  Since Mom's health started deteriorating rapidly in June, it had felt like being on all systems alert every day for months, so while there is still grieving to process, it was a big reduction of stress once they were both gone.  I slept many hours that first week.

Having my record store to focus on has been a welcome distraction through all of this, and some good news is we're still open and have made it through 2020 debt-free.

Of course, life is always going to throw you curveballs.  Tuesday night, I was crossing the street in my neighborhood after the pedestrian light had switched to go, when a lady stopped at the intersection turned right without looking.  I tried to get out of the way, but her car rolled onto my left foot and bumped into me.  Fortunately, I didn't break any bones, but I instinctively tried to pull my foot back, and because it was pinned under her wheel, I wrenched my already gimpy left knee.   I got knocked down and got soaked, as a torrential rain was falling.  The woman stopped and offered to call an ambulance, but once I was able to get back on my feet and determine nothing was broken, I told her to drive safely and let her go without asking for her information.  Overnight, my knee swelled up like a grapefruit, and the last couple of days have been challenging to get from my 3rd floor walk-up apartment to my basement business location.  I think I strained ligaments in both my ankle and my knee.  Good news is that my knee's range of motion has gone from very little to 50%, so I think I'll be okay.  Good thing that I have a short commute.  My sister is bringing my Dad's old cane to me today, which will help greatly.  I will need that to effectively cross the street.  Ultimately, this could have been much worse, and I am grateful that it wasn't.

Herbal, so sorry for your recent losses and you are lucky that you didn't break any bones, OMG!

That's a good picture, Noodler.  Jimmy's looking pretty good.  He's been through a lot and lived a long life.  Wonder if he plays at all?  I remember photos of him with some of the Bluegrass legends while he was President.

A dear friend of mine was a fished guide for him in Mongolia many years ago.  Jimmy wrote a nice story about his experience fishing for the largest of the salmanoid species, but he did it totally President Jimmy Carter style;

Jimmy had a favorite fly tying knot he loved (my buddy Matt's an expert, taught fly tying for decades), but my buddy said it wouldn't be strong enough for the fish they were after.  But the former president was stubborn (his words), and stuck with his knots...  which failed, so the he switched to my buddies knots.  But he spent 3 paragraphs on the foibles of him being arrogant and not (knot?) listening to the expert, and the merits of being humble.  Was quite the lesson on humilty, while really complementing my friend. (in other words, classy class act!)

(SCOTUS judge Sandra Day O'conner was also given that fishing tour a few years before that.  She was an arrogant know it all, who was wrong about everything, but was unrepentent, her husband even warned my friend to just let it go, which he did after a few attempts at the truth;   "that's not an eagle, it's a Cormorant",   she'd go "no, it's an eagle", he'd go, you eagle just dove underwater for fish, and it hasn't come back up yet, eagles don't do that",  or no, those aren't dogwoods, etc...   one of his least favorite fares, and says a lot about the 2 different parties, LOL).

CNN - Tax records that former President Donald Trump tried to keep secret for years are now in the hands of the New York district attorney.

Prosecutors obtained the records on Monday, according to a source, just hours after the US Supreme Court denied Trump's last-ditch effort to keep the records private.

They've been saying that for five years.

How the hell's he supposed to retrieve that ? No wonder he almost drowns. My boy's 20% boxer and has the long legs, with 15% lab and their webbed feet,,, a great swimmer and he also loves the water.

Dear brother slacker, the wheels of justice have been literally stuck in reverse for the last 4 years,, now we see them back in 1st gear, a snails pace I agree,, but forward nonetheless.

Razmatass ,he in no way almost drowned. We were the only ones at the dogpark pond. The basketball was floating in the pond and my sir dude jumped in and played with the ball. This dog will not retrieve shit.

He keeps up with the water- type retrievers though and enjoys swimming alongside his water buddies. He is no way in any danger to the best of my abilities.

Edit..

I'm sorry you are missing out on the % 100 Boxer dog experience.

The remains of early Ku Klux Klan leader and Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest were finally being exhumed from a Memphis park, and the Black woman who led a long battle for the change was there to mark the moment.

But as activist-turned-elected-official Tami Sawyer prepared to address reporters, a man waved a Confederate flag behind her. Pacing back and forth, he called the Memphis city counselor a “communist.” Then he started singing “Dixie,” the anthem of the Old South.

Good news in Louisiana.  The governor signed a bill to decriminalize cannabis up to fourteen grams at a maximum fine of $100 statewide.

The Governor also signed a bill allowing dry flower cannabis to be sold as Medical Marijuana.
