Good Riddance Kalen DeBoer

Forums:

DeBoer turned a lot of heads when he left as the head football coach of the University of Washington to take the Alabama job.  Although he was the highest paid state employee with a contract of over $3.5 million annually, and was reportedly offered twice that to stay, he jumped at Bama's $10.9 million offer.  At the time, he cited the prestige of the Bama job as the only reason he left, although the compensation was surely part of the draw too.

Today it was reported that an 18 year old running back was kept on the team and even played in the Sugar Bowl after DeBoer already knew of rape allegations against him:

Not familiar with DeBoer. A lot of hoopla when Saban went to Alabama.  When he left LSU to the NFL he promised he'd never coach at 'Bama'.

I hope the coach gets sanctioned, the team has to vacate their wins, and the player goes to prison.

go ducks!

Does anyone think that it is a crime that a football coach makes that much money in Alabama? The state with low education standards, high welfare rates, teen pregnancy, you name, but Crimson Tide gives them something to cheer about.

This story is gaining traction.  Alabama football fansites now calling for a thorough investigation of De Boer's and others role in this:

Hell, ANYWHERE. Sad that college football is so lucrative to a university that they have to pay like this. Ridiculous what Utah pays Kyle Whittingham.

I have loved sports and it plays a part in my life but the money angle is really wearing on me. Fans gotta pay $20 for a beer at Yankee Stadium? Ticket prices make it nearly impossible to bring your family.

It's out of control and it ain't going back. College players with the NIL and transfer portal has changed a lot too. Then again, it's unfair the colleges are cashing in on the hopes and dreams of kids. I guess a free education isn't enough anymore. I give up. Nothing I can do.

A thoughtful post, Slickrock. "I feel your frustration."
