Good Tunes To Get Effed Up To

Forums:

Lynyrd Skynyrd The Needle And The Spoon

Listening to the live version from the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from the One More From The Road 2 LP set right now.

The Needle And The Spoon (Live At Fox Theatre, Atlanta, 1976) (youtube.com)

Makes me want to do some drugs and down some whiskey.

What are some of your favorite tunes for getting loaded?

It's been quite a while since I've gotten loaded, but I seem to recall George Thorogood's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" hit the spot.

Just how effed up are we talking?  ;)))))))))))  For the past year and a half, Indian Chill, Ajeet & related artists, and Native American landscapes do it for me.

Hits from the Bong (can I get a...)

Cypress

Smoke 2 Joints ~ SUBLIME

^  "I knew you would say that!"

How about "Dark Side" with headphones?

Speaking of headphones, just had a thought about a dose of "Tubular Bells." It's been a while. LOL

Close 2nd >

Because I got High ~ Afroman

(great stoner comedy)

The title of Jefferson Airplane's album After Bathing at Baxter's is supposed to be code for "after taking acid", so that one would seem to fit here.

I used to lay on the floor with a speaker to my left and right and crank up Edgar Winter's Frankenstein!

I still do, but I used to also!

Trapeze' Medusa album is a go to on this end. Check  it out. You Love Is Alright is a perfect song to me.

Kid Rock American Badass can be cathartic. Flame on people but we're talking lower chakra amirite?

It's a hypothetical, but we're talking three sheets to the wind loaded.

There's plenty of great tunes for your head when you're really stoned or flying on some good clean L, but we're talking about being a few fingers into a bottle of good spirits here.

I too don't really go there that often anymore, but I sure as hell remember the feeling.

When I was listening to the Skynyrd record earlier today, specifically Needle And The Spoon, it took me back to those adrenaline fueled/cocaine-fueled drunken moments I experienced as a young adult.  For me, a lot of those moments are associated with blues based Rock and Roll, usually of the hard rock variety.  Tunes like:

Sweet Emotion-Aerosmith

Who Are You-The Who

Whole Lotta Rosie-AC/DC (admittedly, just about any AC/DC up through their Back In Black LP does the trick)

Head Out To The Highway-Judas Priest

There are certainly several Rolling Stones songs that are part of this playlist.  Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter are both strong candidates.

Eventually, I found my way to the Country Rock sounds of Gram Parsons and his work with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, and there are plenty of songs in those catalogues that sound pretty amazing when you're all lit up like a Christmas Tree.  Same for a lot of the early NRPS material.

Anyhow, thanks for playing.  There really are no wrong answers here.   Whatever gets you off, gets you off, and that's one of Music's many intrinsic joys.
