Goose - Frost Amphitheatre 9/28

Forums:

Well, tonight was the second time I've seen this band and both times the first set was OK, fine, whatever, and then the second set was............... WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!!?

I won't go too far with a review or comparisons or whatever, but god damn that 2nd set was really, really something. It was serious music. These guys are serious players, they're a big league band and they're still ascending.

Whatever one may think and however one may find them, these guys are a fucking great band, which is always great to see, especially when they're young and their audience is generally young and everyone is glorying in THEIR band on the rise, which creates a great unique energy.

And especially when that youthful "this is OUR band!" energy is connected to the REAL DEAL, which is happening here, it's really cool to experience.

Ultimately, tonight was just a little rock 'n roll.

And JUUUST a little bit more.

What else can anyone ask for in 2024?

Wish I could say different but I find them to be extremely one-dimensional and all-out bore. After several shows, I find very little THERE there.

People sure do dig them though. My friend considers Rick a once-in-a-generation guitarist but pretty sure that's just the MDMA/DMT talking.

Glad you has a good show.  Great players for sure and they certainly have a dedicated following.

Seen them a couple times and they didn't really do it for me personally.  They played the Edgefield last weekend and we went up for the soundcheck and stuck around on the porch of the main building for the first set without going in.  Sound was fantastic and had that disco hit, a Fifth of Beethoven, stuck in my head all week.  They also did Animal and had they brought out the Muppet Animal on drums like they did last year for the Newport Folk Festival, would have gladly bought tickets.

If Animal joined the band full time, I would go on Goose tour:

I might not go on tour but I'd go to a show for sure.

agreed, second set was smoking, but with this band ( and to an extent Phish) I'm like...just get to the jam

I did move my bones and  got retinal damage from the lights Ha

A second geetarist  and vocalist would be interesting, adding some interplay and diversity.

Come to the Frost, stay for the music!

they need mapquest however

twice thanking San Francisco and referencing this show as the  largest  Colorado crowd yet

It's great to be back in Cincinnati...

Yes^

I've always thought the same thing about Phish.

Sturgill is a great example of 2 really good guitarists playing off of each other.

I want to like this band and even though animal is by far my favorite muppet overall I just don't get it. Kind of like ween or mmj to me.

Mostly better to my ears with no vocals getting in the way

somebody post up some "best" goose material please

>Phish with a second guitar (Billy)

I'd take Goose with Billy anyday..everyday

As much as I liked Phish with Billy, Phish with Derek Trucks really showed what they could do with two guitars:

And Goose has two guitars sometimes.  The keyboard dude switches off between keys and guitar.

Derek has a really distinctive style and tone that both complements and contrasts with Trey's. Kind of like with Warren and Jimmy Herring. A conversation of two distinct voices. With Billy and Trey, I hear a lot more overlap of the guitars.

Goose suck.

Had a great time at the show. They def hit that psychedelic zone. Bass player really good.

This was my first Goose show and I found them to be great instrumentalist, but the jams seemed to lack any variety both within the songs and from one song to another.  I left in the middle of the second set and caught the whole second set of Melvin Seals at the Guild.  Damn it was great to hear an actual lyrical song.

tall dude

respect
