As noted above, this was practice for a bi-partisan annual game.  Sort of a team building exercise.  In these days, getting rival politicians together for something like a baseball game is probably a good use of time if it helps build working relationships.  Sort of like the old GD v. Airplane baseball match ups.

Happened less than a mile from my office,  building was locked down for a half hour. The field they were practicing on is 5 blocks from my son's house. The annual softball game is a yearly tradition.

Sadly, I'm sure this will throw fuel on the eternal 'gun rights' debate. Side A will proclaim more guns would have prevented this from going as far as it did.  Side B will say there are too many guns, and if the guy couldn't get one this would have never happened. What nobody will say is they're both wrong.

The guy (nutjob) was going to do what he was going to do no matter what. Legal or illegal, he was going to shoot somebody in Washington today.

The people practicing for the baseball game, even if they had guns with them, they certainly wouldn't be wearing them while playing baseball. So more guns wouldn't have helped.

The one thing that DID help was the police officers who did their job, and did it well.

Of course, most of us will hope cooler heads will prevail, but opportunists will use this to scream for more (or fewer) guns.

Oh, and Thom, you are a hopeless case. And you must be miserable to be around. Just all-the-time miserable. The waste of a human life.

SPLC's definition of a hate group guarantees it only covers "protected classes". They define it as "any group with beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people". So environmental terrorists, black bloc terrorists, anti-globalists terrorists aren't included. 

You can't use it as source to determine what percentage of hate groups are leftists because they simply don't track them.

Last night I wanted to see what was going on in the world. It was maybe 8:30. I turned on CNN and it was the same talking heads yabbering about the same nothing.

I turned to Fox News, just for shits and giggles. What do you know? They were talking about news. I learned that ICE had declared that any illegal should "look over their shoulders because they are breaking the law," and that Trump has given Maddox full authority to decide in troop numbers.

I couldn't believe that Fox was actually reporting the news. Granted, they started in on the partisan BS after a few minutes, but they did do some real reporting.
